I recently visited the Toplou Monastery in Crete and was really impressed by the experience. The monastery is located in a quiet, peaceful setting with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The architecture of the monastery is unique and really adds to the overall ambiance of the place.

One of the highlights of my visit was the restaurant at the monastery. The food was delicious and the setting was beautiful, with outdoor seating that afforded a great view of the surrounding area.

In addition to the beautiful setting and delicious food, the Toplou Monastery also had some interesting historical artifacts on display. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the monastery and the important role it has played in the region.

Overall, the Toplou Monastery was a truly enjoyable experience. The setting is quiet and peaceful, the restaurant is great, and the historical artifacts are interesting. The monastery is well-kept and it is clear that a lot of effort goes into maintaining it. I highly recommend a visit to the Toplou Monastery for anyone looking for a unique and...

We red that it was a good attraction to visit but we were disappointed that there is not a lot to see. We paid 4€/person (16 years old and over) and we visited for 10 minutes and that was it. No pictures allowed, no explanations available and a lot of closed area (4 smalls rooms of books and a few guns). Majority of stuff is written in greek, and there is not a lots of information about the history or the purpose of the monastery. Although it was nice to be able to have a popsicle afterwards! The gift shop with the white wine and the famous olive oil is accessible without paying the 4€/person. We haven’t tried the white wine yet, but according to some sources, it’s one of the best of Crete. The only reason i would recommend going is for the gift shop and the beautiful...

A really nice raining day activity in Crete. The monastery had a great museum on the groubd floors while the monks live on the floor above. There are lots of unique Cretan plants and a cafe serving local delights. The museum had many rooms. Full of icons and displays that outweighed my expectations! Many hundred year old bibles, paintings and holy robes. They also had a large section on icons and prints showing the histories of the ages. There is even a small room of World War artifacts left there. Also do not miss the walk along the gorge! Well signed but not for the wobbly walkers!

What a great place this is, full of history, beautiful scenery and wine tasting; what more could you want. We started with the wine tasting which was great and helped by very knowledgable and friendly staff and a lovely setting (we ended up buying two cases of wine). We then toured the monastery which is beautiful, with a sometimes tragic history; the museum attached to the monastery is small but very interesting. I can’t recommend Toplou Monastry enough; we will most certainly be back.

Interesting but small.€4 per person. Some beautiful images and iconography, alongside historical texts. However it only consists of about four small rooms around a courtyard and given the reputation you'd be expecting something bigger. The wine tasting is outside the monastery; we did the 'try before you buy'. A wine tasting session was happening at the same time and it seemed good. The wine bottles aren't cheap! There's a small windmill outside as well.
