Gikas — Attraction in Municipality of Spata - Artemida

AMAZING WINE TASTING! We had a 5 hour layover at Athens Airport, so we decided to try a winery nearby for a wine tasting. We called Several wineries in the area and none could accommodate us. We called Gikas Winery and no one answered. But based on a blog I had read, we took a chance to go to Gikas Winery. When we arrived they happily obliged to give us a wine tasting! The owner gave us the wine tasting and she was so passionate about her work! She was excited and easy to talk to and gave us great explanations about each wine! I highly recommend taking the time to visit this family owned winery! The taxis from the airport will tell you “Spata is very far away and you won’t be able to find a taxi.” It’s not true. The winery called their local taxi for us and he was waiting for us after our tasting and it cost about half of the airport taxi (15 euro). Gikas winery does wine tastings from 10am to 4pm I believe. I think it was 18 Euro per person and they served about 7 wines and a platter of cheese, tomatoes and bread. ...

It’s a must! I had a 7 hour layover in Athens and couldn’t help but check this winery out after reading the reviews.

You should definitely call ahead and book. I was unable to and luckily I was just by myself so they were lovely enough to accommodate me. It is just about 15 min from the airport.

The winery itself is beautiful and the wines are delicious! Polina was very informative and friendly. I really enjoyed my time and would definitely go back next time...

It was really a great experience. Kostantina welcomed us and explained in details the features of the different wines and and the winemaking process.
