The ticket price includes both the forest and museum for a same day visit, so leave time for both if you like. When we visited in November the signs were being renovated so there were no on-site descriptions of what we were observing. However, we have visited before and it is still an impressive display of in situ petrified trees. The park is being upgraded significantly and there is another section just outside the village of Sigri on the sea. It is on the far side of the public beach. During summer it can be quite hot, so bring water and take advantage of the pergolas for shady rest. The views of the hills are expansive and we love hearing the distant tinkling of sheep's bells. It's quite serene and, for us, relaxing. Part of the path has stairs and part of it is without stairs. WC on site. I took off one star for lack of signage or any offer of information about the park on this visit. Usually I would give it five stars.

Fantastic experience. Several optional routes around the park, but to see the worlds biggest standing petrified tree it’ll take around 50 minutes of walking with uphill and some rough terrain. Take water and a hat! The road leading to the park is very unkept and damaged in areas along high ridges and windy roads. Practically had the place to myself in September and a very knowledgeable and kind geologist working there gave me a great explanation and answered all my questions. It was fascinating to dwell in the mystery and massive amount of time required to create these monuments of nature.

This is a geologist’s paradise. 20 m.y. old tree trunks preserved through the process of substitution with amazing detail, offer you a glimpse of the flora of that time. Unfortunately there is little to none information on the site except from some numbers that in order to make sense, you have to buy the guide beforehand and read the corresponding description. Try to visit the site early morning because around noon under the ruthless sun and scorching heat you run the danger of becoming part of the ...fossilized exhibits.

I really wanted to visit the Petrified Forest during my stay in Lesvos. It's one of Greece's most famous geological and paleontological sites, known worldwide.

Unfortunately, I found with great disappointment and concern that there was essentially no way to access the site without a private vehicle. After speaking both with the local KTEL bus service and the museum itself, it was confirmed that there is no way to visit the site and return on the same day without a car. This, of course, excludes students, tourists, researchers, and visitors who do not own a car. It is not a given that everyone has access to a car or the financial means (or rather the luxury) to take a taxi.

How is it possible that a site designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark has not arranged even a simple solution, such as a few scheduled trips with reservations from the center of Mytilene? And perhaps even more concerning is the fact that not only has the museum not taken any relevant initiative, but the municipality itself does not appear to actively promote such a significant monument especially considering that the only KTEL route available runs once per day without return and doesn’t even stop near the museum or park entrance.

How can there be regular transportation to beaches and monasteries but not to a world-renowned natural heritage site? Science, knowledge, and natural heritage should be accessible to EVERYONE and should not be a privilege reserved for the few.

I truly hope and wish that this problematic situation will change...
