So, the way to the pythagoras cave is a little drive. Make sure you take the upper road to the site, since the lower one is basically a farmroad. By the road where the trail strats, there is a little travern where you can relax and buy something to drink before you take the tour up to the cave. The cave is not far from the road, but the way up is partly steep and some steep stairs. The view from the cave is amazing, there are two caves, one which i think was the classroom, and one which goes far down, where they got water. It's possible to go down one of the caves, tough its not adviced. In the bigger cave there is cold air. Be aware that the cave which he actually lived, on the way down, right past the chaple midway there is a trail on the left towards the pointy mountains. Follow this to the big figtree, theres a rope which you can climb up. On the top there is like a hole in the mountain which is very windy. A cool experience. All in all, not a lot to see at the site, but the view is nice and it's cool to visit.

We walked from Votsalakia this morning. Left at 8am. Home by 11.30am. It was a fairly ok/ verging on hard walk up for me (as I'm not that fit and it was warm) but my mountain goat ultra running husband has been running up and down this road every day since we arrived. So he found it easy. But 100% worth doing!! The 300 steps once you get there, were the hardest. But do-able, even with my dodgy knees. I do suggest you are wearing shoes/trainers though. The steps are fairly high in places. And take plenty of water if you are walking all the way there. The small cafe at the bottom of the steps only takes cash. But the man selling honey and herbs on the walk up takes card. Probably not an activity for young children either. Happy walking! If I can do it, so can you 😁

Great place full of history. I recommend to take the road from the east side of the island start from Marathokampos, not the one from the south, near Psili Amos Beach. Leave the care near the store, and take the stairs. On the middle you will see a rock with an arrow that indicate the actual cave, where Pythagoras was living. But you have to be equipped with proper shoes not flip flops. Be aware that you need to do a little climbing, not so much and not so far. Do not go if you are not up to it, stick to the stairs and you will see two churches. If you go to the cave you will be rewarded with a beautiful view.

Very intruiging place. It was quite a walk and climb up there from the place I was staying, but very worth it. After walking over a road for 4 km starting from the beach (this is the way I got there), you will be facing a set of stairs, which at a certain point you leave, to start a climb up a narrow rocky road, indicated by red graffiti arrows and dots. When you get to the entrance, the cave looks pretty small. However, when you get in there, it is really impressive. I found it, as I said before, very intruiging and I recommend everyone that comes to Samos and has some time to check it out.

Definitely worth visiting ! The views are breathtaking, beautiful nature. However, the hike itself can be quite demanding. I was supposed to walk 1 h 6 min from Kampos to the grotto, according to Google maps. Instead it took me 2,5 hrs and I’m a fit person. Also, there is a short steep fragment with stairs, which has destroyed barriers and it can be quite dangerous to climb there to the cave. This is a track for fit, healthy individuals, not for couch potatoes, elderly or small children. Please be wary when hiking alone, to avoid accidents.

Very though road and badly reachable. They started to make the road better but at the end there is still some macedam. Where you park the car there is a small caffee place. Then you walk up the stairs that are first in great condition and then they get more "original". If you have fear of height its not the most pleasant trip to make. Have good shoes. The cave at the top is okay but also you cannot walk really in, only if your a professional cave hiker. You can only see the main entrance. Don't recommend it for families.
