This is a review for Vathi Beach, the one that has been almost been taken over by the 5 star hotel. It is not about Porto Vathi beach or Marble Beach (Saliara)
It’s a very quiet and intimate beach. The hotel management has being trying really hard not to allow non-guests to have access.
Access to all beaches is free in Greece and it’s also written in our constitution. So how you can access this amazing beach?
You drive towards Porto Vathi and then you continue towards the Vathi Beach point on Google maps. You will find a cross road, one road leading to the hotel and other to golden beach. Park there, before the crossroad. It’s impossible to park further down the beach as the hotel has built small barriers at the two sides of the road.
There is a small but easy path that leads to the beach. There you will find a hotel employee. He/she might tell you that beach is private (it’s not), that you cannot use it (you can). As a matter of fact you are free to use any part of the beach on the left and right sides of it. The middle section has been rented by the hotel.
It’s an incredible beach and most tourists do not know it or they are afraid by the dirt road. I have a normal car and I had no issues at all when I drove from Limenas.
Avoid the overcrowded Marble Beach and Porto Vathi, be respectful and visit this...

IMPORTANT NOTE: for anyone who wants to visit the Vathy beach for free, WITHOUT paying anything to the hotel, be informed that the Greek law and constitution protects you.
If anyone attempts to deny you access, charge you for being on the beach (without using the equipment of the hotel) or asks you to move out of any part of the beach, IGNORE them and call the police. According to the Greek law the everyone is free to use the beach without paying anything.
There is a well known scam of the hotel owners who are trying to privatize the beach illegally.
UPDATE: The hotel now does not bother you if you try to enter the beach...
Read moreExtrodinary ex-virgin beach. I loved it so much that I wanted to go there everyday. But unfortunately, it wasn't enaugh that all yachts and boats which smelled like burned gassoline came with tourists to disturb the silenece and the sea life. Now they renovated an old vandalized building and made it a 5* hotel with sunbeds, music, bar, etc. It is too bad that every marvelous place becomes accesible to the masses and looses it's qualities and essence. P.S. If you hate ATV's and Jeeps, you can travel on foot from Golden Beach. It's a forest road full of curious goats and outstanding views. You make it on foot on 1 hour...
