As passionate wine enthusiasts, though not particularly knowledgeable, my girlfriend and I wanted to use our vacation on Zakynthos to deepen our understanding of wine. We decided to take part in a wine tasting and followed our hotel’s recommendation to visit Callinico Winery. We opted for the "Premium 2" package, which included a tasting of six different wines paired with regional delicacies, all for 30 euros per person.
Our visit began with an impressive and detailed tour of the winery, the wine cellar, and the accompanying museum. Right from the start, we could feel the passion and dedication that goes into the work at Callinico. Following the tour, we began the wine tasting, which was expertly led by a highly knowledgeable sommelier. He spoke fluent English and had a remarkable ability to explain the intricacies of wine tasting in a way that even novices like us could easily understand. We learned a lot about how to properly taste wine and what to focus on to fully appreciate it.
The six wines we tasted were all of high quality, with the red wines particularly capturing our attention. Each wine was thoughtfully presented and explained, allowing us to appreciate not just the flavors but also the stories and traditions behind them. The regional snack platter served alongside the wines was also a delight, perfectly complementing the tasting experience.
After the tasting, we were gently asked if we were interested in purchasing any bottles. There was no pressure, and we were offered the opportunity to take our time to decide, or even return later if we preferred. However, our decision was quickly made, as several of the wines had impressed us so much that we wanted to take them home. We were particularly fond of a dessert wine that surprised us with its lovely sweetness and distinctive cinnamon notes—a true hidden gem at just 10 euros per bottle. We also decided to purchase two other, slightly more expensive red wines that had left a lasting impression during the tasting.
The highlight of our visit, however, was the opportunity to get hands-on after the harvest and participate in the production process. It was a unique experience that made us feel like a small part of us would be present in future vintages.
Overall, the wine tasting at Callinico Winery was one of the absolute highlights of our vacation. The combination of an educational tour, top-quality wines, and the authentic, welcoming atmosphere makes this winery a must-visit for any wine lover spending time on the beautiful island of Zakynthos. We highly recommend a visit and will certainly cherish this experience for a long...
Read moreIf you are even the slightest interested in wines then you must visit this gem on Zakynthos. This is a place that radiates a love for the craft of winemaking and pride in its long heritage. We decided to go on our own and did the Premium 1 tour - because I'm a novice when it comes to wines while my wife knows a lot more. Our guide was Marios, who is a friggin star! His passion for wine is contagious and he took the time to answer our questions without a hint of stress or time restraint. I love when people are passionate about what they are passing on to ohers. Its easy to see that Marios wants people to understand wines more, to open a new world of tastes. We ended up going way over the alloted time but not once did it feel like that. In fact when it was over it felt like we had just started which I think is a good sign. Time flies when you're having fun and all that.
If the price of the tours feels high - its worth every penny. I think Marios and the rest of the team at Callinico Winery will be able to share something you didn't know about wine - no matter your level of knowledge.
We left the winery with some very nice wines that I look forward to enjoying at a later date and I feel that I've gained a new appriciation about wines - to my wife's delight!
So, thank you so much Marios for your hospitality, generosity and your passion to show newbies like myself the wonderful world of...

I would 100 percent recommend this to anyone even if you have little experience of wines, from start to finish we were treated like VIPs. We were greeted by a member of the family (Yanis I think his name was) and taken on a beautiful tour of the winery and he answered all our questions and let us explore ourselves. The way the tour is designed is simple and interesting. We were then brought in for a wine tasting and the wines were some of the nicest I have ever and will ever taste along with stunning cheeses and breads from a local shop (which when we asked about where to get it they kindly brought us to), we had to bring so home some of the wine and I was so happy to see they deliver worldwide. I hope I get to go back again and see it. We booked the Premium 3 tour and it was a truly unforgettable experience.
