Amaizing scenery, white clifs, beach, turquoise sea and of course the shipwreck create this unique scene. You know the story, the crew of the ship that smuggled cigarettes escaped to avoid being caught by the police, and the ship ran aground on the shore, and this is how this movie scene frozen in time was created. The beach cannot be accessed due to falling rocs and the safety of tourists, so the beach can only be photographed from the boat. The bay itself is very crowded because hundreds of excursion boats leave for Navagio beach every day. Swimming is not possible due to the large number of vessels in a small area. If you are on a boat trip, you spend about 10 minutes in the bay taking pictures and enjoying the surroundings, and then the journey continues. The waves can be very high even when the weather is relatively calm, so the journey to the beach may not be pleasant. The other possibility is by boat. The most walkable and plenty of choices. We paid €30 per person during our stay for an extensive tour to several places with the highlight of course being the shipwreck.
During our stay the beach was officially closed to visitors. This is due to the safety of falling rocks on the beach. Personally I found it great to see without hordes of people and the boat could...
Read moreIf you're in Zakynthos you must do this trip, we booked with abbatravel and we had a good experience the driver took us to Xigia beach where we spent one hour then went on to St Nicholas port where we boarded a small boat which takes around 20, the reason it's smaller than some of the other boats is they can get into the blue caves. We went straight to the shipwreck where again we spent a hour, when we boarded again we went to several caves on the way back and also stopped for a 20 minute swim then back to the port onto the minibus and back to the hotel, we left at 10am and back around 4.15, take swim shoes as they are pebble beaches. At the time of posting it cost £35 each which is a lot cheaper than the big operators and you get to go near...
