Nestled in the foothills of the Grand Etang rain forests, this is a cool, shady, spot to stop off for a hike, a swim, a dip in the refreshing waters, appetizers, or a drink. Or to just keep cool and escape in the shade of the leafy foliage of the rain forest. Annadale Falls were recently leased to foreign investors (who claimed to have Grenadian roots🤣) much to the dismay and disapproval of the locals. Since then, there is an entry fee, a gift shop, a restaurant overlooking the falls, regular maintenance of the park: but also limitations to the public, to what was once public space and forestry. A mini zoo or apiary can be incorporated into the experience, if tastefully done without abuse to animals. Now, if a local person had the revenue, initiative, and the idea to bring this together, this would be great. But a foreigner did it, and locals were outraged because of how it was done. But they should learn from this and try to capitalize on business opportunities instead of letting outsiders do it, then fret and boycott after. If you sleep on your rights, it will be taken away from you. This is one such example, as Annadale falls were leased for 100 years to these foreign investors! So locals might as well stop grumbling, and just enjoy the amenities and experience for the next 100 years! Instead of fretting, they should make efforts to limit such hostile takeovers by advocating for a policy whereby if an outsider has interest in local investment idea, especially involving public space, the government must be transparent, inform the public, and have a waiting period for approval during which time locals, including Grenadians in the diaspora, are given first choice, invitations to bid or to present business proposals or counter offers within a reasonable time. Furthermore, legislation should.be considered to limit the term of these leases, a 100 year lease is a lifetime! In addition, a public forum should be created and an objective committee formed, before which the public is invited to present their views, approvals or objections, with reasons. When these leases are purposefully signed and arranged behind closed doors, surreptitiously, and without transparency to the public, then suddenly announced after the deal is sealed for 100 years, it seems hostile and disrespectful to the nation. When this Annadale deal was announced, the government still kept the name of the investor private, further enraging the public. Furthermore, these clandestine arrangements evoke mixed emotions of despondency, frustration, anger, debilitation, helplessness, distrust, betrayal and disappointment. The government has a duty to protect our resources: and must make a good faith effort to do so with transparency, accountability, and most of all, respect to the people who reposed trust in them to govern responsibly. This is tantamount to abuse and misuse of power. What next, Grand Etang Forest? No, Heritage Park! Or is it...
Read moreA good option if you’re not fit enough to do the 7 sisters, for the 7 sisters you have to be very fit and able to do a tough vertical hike for 30-40 minutes through rough terrain, with Annandale you can just walk down a path and have a beer and food by the smaller waterfall.
The waterfall itself is very nice, the food and drinks were ok not great the only reason we were a bit dissatisfied was the service and attitude from the waitress.
our appetizers came without any smaller dishes, when we asked for dishes so we can eat our appetizers without spilling food on the table she came back with one plate (there was four of us) after that we asked her to please bring plates for the rest of us and she gave us a bad look and left when she came back she came back with one dish and I made a comment about the appetizer falling on the table and having to eat with our hands as plates but we let it go.
The food took forever almost 30-40 minutes even though we were the only people in the restaurant Then they brought out 2 dishes and the other 2 dishes were delayed another 20 minutes and it happened to be my dish (I complained) that didn’t get brought out until everyone else was done.
Nice view, but bad service and bland food. Go there and have a beer or drink but wouldn’t...
Read moreThe Annandale Falls is a great place to Visit in Grenada. The falls itself is part of a whole tourist area, or perhaps the area sprung up to accommodate the falls (which came first...). Visually stimulating and aesthetically breathtaking the fall both wowed and delighted at the same time.
Entering the area I was asked for my name by a guy with a guitar who worked it into an extempo calypso. The falls area was quite accessible via pavements with hand rails and one could get right up and personal with the falls and the associated rocky creek. I was told by my colleague that invariably someone takes a spectacular dive from the top into the creek below (we were not disappointed) and I should be ready to capture the moment (I was), thanks for the heads up.
Upon leaving the actual falls we met two ladies with rather unique hats (consisting of fruits of various types, this included pineapples and bananas plus some flowers), for a contribution one could have a photo opp to commemorate the wonderful time spent at the falls.
The Annandale Falls was a highlight of my visit to Grenada, I understand that there are other waterfalls and many other points of interests but this visit really...
