This was an amazing surprise! It is dealing with a culture that I had never heard of before, and I'm fairly well read in Central American ancient cultures. This one was excavated maybe a hundred years ago or further back by Germans, and the great grandfather I believe of the current owner of the land made copies of the really good pieces that the Germans took back to Germany unfortunately. The museum was built by the family and is run by the family and gets no state support as far as I can tell. Our tour was led by Luisa, The great great granddaughter of the original founder. She and her father run the farm that is on the land, and take care of the museum as well. It is incredibly informative, very interesting, and especially useful if you're looking to learn more about the different cultures of ancient America if you will, and how they interacted with trade and war.
