Gorgeous, with three volcanoes surrounding the lake. First you'll probably go to Panajachel, and from there you can take lanchas (boats) to the other villages. I wouldn't recommend going by road to anywhere besides Pana if you have your own vehicle because the roads are steep, rugged, and reportedly quite dangerous, and one of them is under construction. But by boat you can get anywhere, and you can rent kayaks, go to thermal pools, bike volcanoes, even go hang gliding. The are lots of Spanish language schools, affordable accommodations, and opportunities to learn about the local culture. It's full of tourists but this lake is beloved by everyone, and it's not hard to see why.

Honestly, it was just okay. Dry as a bone so no Water Fall ; no steams, not a drop of water in sight. All the trees and foliage, looked so sad due to lack of Water ! Butterfly dome was pretty and when I found the area for Monkeys sat there for a while and no Monkeys in sight. Restaurant looks nice but pretty pricey. The one thing I enjoyed was a hike up a Mountain. Very good views of Lake Atitlan. If you go there I suggest doing so during the rainy season. A little disappointed for 75 Quetzals. Pic is of the Mountain I hiked.

The lake is really picturesque, set against hills and vulcanoes. We stayed in Panajachel which is the most developed and offers many restaurants and accommodation options, however, it is less charming. Many people prefer smaller towns of San Pedro or San Marcos. You can travel between villages by boat and it is around 25Q per trip. I would recommend a hike from Santa Cruz to Jaibalito and San Marcos which has stunning views. Or simply grab a drink and some food and watch the sunset from one of the lakeside restaurants.

I am fairly certain that I have already reviewed the Nature Reserve in Panjachel. This is a beautiful place where you can walk in the hills of Panjachel and you can look at many waterfalls and you can see the river winding down to the lake as you cross the many bridges. It is also possible to zip line down the mountain but I cannot remember the price. My older brother, my sister, my nephew, my mum and I fed the pizote which are small mammals that are related to raccoons. We bought a few bananas from the café in the reception area of the Nature Reserve. This was a great experience for my family who travelled from England and I would highly recommend it to anyone,...
