Unbelievable!! I made the trip here from Texas just to have to deal with horrible customer service at the front gate. First the security guard was a little too abrasive about putting my mask on. I complied. But then the lady at the gate said I was suppose to have it on even if I was by myself. I don’t know how with ninety degree weather and high humidity. Then that same lady didn’t have any change to give me when I paid to get in, and she expected me to drive around town to get it for her! Needless to say that it’s not very safe around here outside the tourist areas. People get shot all the time for a few lempiras. Sometimes people follow you around knowing that you have cash money so they can rob you later. Can you imagine the audacity!?! Then she was pressing hard on the question on whether or not I was a Honduran or US citizen. Everything seemed seedy from that point on. This was a very bad experience and if I would’ve known, I wouldn’t have...
Read moreThe Jardín Botánico Lancetilla in Tela is a remarkable and historically significant botanical garden, originally established as an experimental center for tropical plants by Dr. Wilson Popenoe in 19251. Today, it stands as one of the most important collections of exotic plant species in Latin America, with a special emphasis on fruit trees and timber.

Lancetilla offers a tranquil escape where one can spend 1-2 hours immersed in the lush greenery and serenity of nature. A visit to Lancetilla is essential to truly experiencing Tela, making it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to this part...
Read moreI have been coming here since the 80's. Always a pleasure for botany enthusiasts, yet , it could be sooooo much better with a little funding. They still have employees sweeping throughout the garden- how about acquiring some leaf blowers ? Most of the plant signs are unreadable, there is not enough of the history of Popenoe shared despite having an excellent exhibition space on 2nd floor of Visitor center, the diversity of plants could be so much better. It's a large acreage place, so space is not the issue. I know it's difficult to obtain funding these days, and I don't enjoy being critical, but I love Honduras and like many, love plants. This garden has so much more potential, and would be worth charging more and promoting more if it was improved. The north coast of Honduras is beautiful and this garden should reflect that more, and Honduran pride. Any non profit I could get...
