Some advice if you're planning a visit, especially if you're a foreigner. The price for foreigners is 10 dollars, 240 limpiras. It's almost 4 times more than for a national. But if you're going with Hondurans just let them buy tickets for you. Don't speak foreign language in front of employees and also, if you seem too much like a foreigner try not to enter the main gates before someone buys you a ticket. Today I went in, spoke some Spanish, fled to the bathroom, and a Honduran bought me a ticket with no questions. The first time I was to indiscreet and paid more. The signs in the beginning of trails aren't accurate. For example, for La Cascada It says 1h (2 km). In fact, it's the hardest trail and it'll take you no less than 1,5 hour. With a rain or high humidity 2+ hours. Refer to the map that you can take while entering. The waterfall (la cascada) is a must, it takes 6 hours (walking slowly and through the forest). For 6 hours of fast walking you can choose La Esperanza + La cascada. This way you can also pass by El Mirador, the view of mountains. There are a lot of mosquitos. So small you won't even notice. But their bites are very itchy. Be ready to mess up your shoes and have another pair. As well as fresh clothes in case of rain or just for...

Great get away so close to the city!!

Went on private vehicle from Tegucigalpa Centro/El Hatillo side. A little less than an hours drive from Tegucigalpa up to the parking lot of Jutiapa Visitor Center. 50 HNL entrance for residents/$10 (240HNL) for foreigners. Make sure you look at the colors below the signage; they are color-coded to match the map they give you at the Visitor Center. We took the blue trail (Juacara) thinking it was the green trail, but after an hour of walking down hill, the trail disappeared (which freaked us out...we went back and took the red up and pink down). It's a pretty steap hike, so be prepared to lose your breath, bring water and maybe a small snack like chocolate or candy to boost...

Great hike! I hiked to the beautiful waterfall. It was a difficult wet hike, but I am happy I completed it. It took 4 hours total. It has uphill and downhill both ways. Bring plenty of water and snacks to keep the energy up. Not many animal sightings but I could hear plenty of birds and critters. My shoes were covered in mud by the end of the hike. No wait to purchase tickets. I went on a Wednesday and did not see another person the entire hike other than the employee at the...
