When we contacted this company we asked for an early excursion so that we could get back to Mahogany bay and do some shopping. Our scheduled time for pick up was 11 AM. They picked us up and then took us about 15 to 20 minutes away to a gas station so we could do some souvenir shopping. Unbelievable! They told us but it’s a fantastic place to take a picture with the Roatan sign. Then they drove us back past the cruise ship another 10 or 15 minutes the other way to where we got to the ATVs. We didn’t actually get to ride an ATV until 1:32 in the afternoon. I have a timestamp on a picture of one of my friends practicing riding an ATV when we first got there. We were at the ATV area for about 30 minutes before we could ride. We had to wait for other people to come back in with the machines. There were 22 of us that went on this excursion with ATV Jungle Tours Roatan. If you decide to book with them make sure they count the money in front of you and don’t put it under the counter. They opened two envelopes of ours under the counter and stole $100 from us. We then split into two groups one of 10 riders and the other of 12. The group of 10 riders had an ok experience. They did let them go too fast and two riders tipped the ATVs over. One girl got burns but not anything serious. One of the people in that group had the brakes go out on him and he almost hit a tree. He had repeatedly told the guides the brakes were out and they said oh no it’s OK. Thank God he was an experienced rider. The group of 12 is where the major problems came in. First off they bring the machines back in for us to get on them. Other people had just gotten off of them and the machines were hot and absolutely covered in mud. We started our ride and came to the first hill. The guides had to push 2 machines up the hill. They didn’t have enough power to get up the hill without help. They could not keep our machines running. We didn’t drive any further than five or six minutes without having to stop for a machine breaking down. At one point there was four of us walking. The guides running alongside us were amazing and tried their best To give us a good time. It’s not fun on any ATV when you can’t ride it and you’re stopped all the time. We didn’t even get our full ride because we started so late and we had to get back to a cruise ship. When we got back to the office the guides asked for something to drink and were told by the receptionist that they couldn’t have anything out of the cooler. I was appalled by this and bought all of our guides a drink. We contacted the owner after this and he refused any type of refund at all. He said they had a tape of our money transaction and nobody took any of our money. When we asked to see a copy of the tape he couldn’t come up with it. The manager also said we refused new machines when they were brought to us which is absolutely untrue. Who wants to walk up and down muddy hills when you can ride. We ended up having to put two people on each machine when we paid for one person on each. And then with that weight they wouldn’t get up any of the hills without being pushed by the guides. When we told them about the guides not getting anything to drink he said they had a cooler in the back. I think that is another ply to get people to buy them drinks and put more money into their business. This business was very shady and I would not ever go back here again. By the way the credit card did refund our security deposit since they found this company to...
Read moreMy family of 6 went to the ATV Jungle Park on Isla Roatan on 2/20/18. We had the best time, our kids (all mid 20s) said that was the best excursion they have ever been on and loved every minute of it!!! Our experience was safe, fun and exhilarating!! Our lead guide Alex was sure to keep us all well informed, and Quinn along with Alex’s cousin (who’s name I didn’t get) along with a few others, all made us feel welcome and we had a great time. I particularly was a bit of a chicken, and they took the time to make sure I felt safe, helped me learn how to drive, and by the end of the adventure, I was zooming around the trails, and having a blast! (It is the little things like that where the owners take the time to make sure you enjoy yourself that really makes a difference!) The hills and valleys were perfect, challenging but not unsafe, the views were amazing! Alex took the time to stop and take pictures of our family, overlooking the amazing views of the mountains, as well as gave us some local history and info about the island and the mainland of Honduras. You can’t go wrong booking with this team, great prices, an air conditioned bus ride from the cruise port to the park, and then a lovely ride to a local beach afterwards where we got to relax, swim and have a bite and a beer. Just truly an awesome time and I highly recommend this excursion to anyone wanting to see a bit of the beautiful island, have a truly awesome ATV experience and meet some really nice people who made sure our day in Roatan was perfect!...
Read moreThis excursion was absolutely everything we wanted and more! Jay and Quinn were very knowledgeable and kept us safe during our ATV trek and made sure to show us amazing views and share their culture with us. We had such a great time with them! I am so sorry that I didn't write down the name of our driver and tour guide for the rest of the day, but she was so sweet and made sure we got to see Coxen Hole and some absolutely beautiful areas of the island. She was so knowledgeable and shared even more of the culture of the island with us.
The highlight (in my opinion) was holding a sloth. I feel like I can die happy now lol. My husband's favorite part was the ATV. However, we both enjoyed relaxing at the private resort beach they took us to at the end of the trip. We ate some food and got a couple of drinks before being taking back to Mahogany Bay (Carnival Cruise Line's port).
So, something I never thought about was how the cruise lines effect islands like Roatan. Obviously, they bring tourists and business, but they're not all treated equally. When you leave Mahogany Bay you have to walk down a hill and out of these large security gates to Mahogany Bay, but I am so glad we did. Carnival urges you to choose their excursions because most of that money stays within the Carnival organization, but there are so many people not employed by the cruise lines who never get the time of day. I urge you to support these businesses. They, in turn, help their communities and help preserve the culture and livelihood of...
