The Danube River is one of the longest rivers in Europe and the second largest after the Volga River in Russia. It is about 2,860 kilometers long and extends through 10 countries: Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine.

It extends from the Black Forests in southern Germany and empties into the Black Sea through the Danubian Delta in Romania and Ukraine, and its surroundings are spread around many natural reserves that include rare species of plants and animals.

The Danube River is considered a major source of water in many of the countries through which it passes, and supplies water to many cities and agricultural areas.

It is considered part of the European shipping lanes network and is considered an important corridor for trade and maritime transport between the Black Sea countries and the European Union countries.

There are many famous bridges that cross the Danube, including the Chain Bridge in Budapest and the Blue Danube Bridge in Romania.

It is also considered an important source of electricity in many of the countries through which it passes, as large dams are spread along it to generate electrical energy.

Several major cities are located on its banks, including Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, Belgrade and the suburbs of Bucharest.

The Danube River is home to many migratory birds, with many birds crossing the river on their journey between Europe and Asia.

The Danube estuaries in the Danube Delta in Romania and Ukraine are an ecological reserve and home to many rare species of plants and animals.

The river is one of the few rivers in the world whose waters partially freeze during the winter, giving it stunning...

22 juin 2014 ... Très jolie matinée jusqu'à Sigmaringen. On appercoit au loin le château, imposant. Il fait l'effet d'une forteresse.

23 juin 2014... On passe à Ulm.

24 juin 2014... Le broyeur des berges nous réveille. On passe à 5 kms de Legoland. Journée un peu languissante.

25 juin 2014... Pluie.

Vignes. Fruitiers, petits villages...

River Danube is the only river that flows through 10 countries! It originates in Germany and is the longest river in Europe after Nile.

The River Danube is integral part of Budapest people - it flows (or connects!) between Buda and Pest with few bridges connecting both cities. There’s not much you can do to get your feet wet as most of the bank is either rocky or cemented with high roads.

The views over river Danube overlooking both sides of Buda and Pest are breathtaking. You do get to see the promenades on the river bank with great views of Parliament, Fisherman’s Bastion, Gellért’s Hill and others.

One site you shouldn’t miss is the ‘Shoes Over River Danube’ - a series of cast iron shoes laid out on the bank (on the Pest side just before the Parliament) commemorating the Hungarians who were shot dead by the Arrow Cross Militiamen at the very same spot...

The Danube, mighty river of blue, Flows through lands both old and new. From Germany to the Black Sea, It's a sight that's meant to be seen. Through Austria, Hungary, and Serbia it roams, A treasure that each country calls its own. The Danube Delta's a wondrous sight, A home for creatures great and small, day and night. But the Danube isn't just a natural delight, It's a source of history and cultural might. From ancient Roman days to modern times, It's been a place for stories, songs, and rhymes. So let's raise a glass to the Danube, dear friend, A river that will never see an end. May it flow forever, a source of pride, A shining gem that the world can't hide

The Danube was once a long-standing frontier of the Roman Empire, and today flows through 10 countries, more than any other river in the world. Originating in Germany, the Danube flows southeast for 2,850 km (1,770 mi), passing through or bordering Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine before draining into the Black Sea. Its drainage basin extends into nine more countries. Since ancient times, the Danube has become a traditional trade route in Europe. Today, 2,415 km (1,501 mi) of its total length are navigable. The river is also an important source of hydropower and drinking water.
