Csókakő vára története Csókakő vára a Vértes hegység szélén, a 479 méter magas Csóka-hegy oldalában található. A vár első írásos említése 1299-ből származik, amikor Márk fia, István alországbíró lakott benne családjával és szolgáival. A várat a Csák nemzetség építette a tatárjárás után, hogy ellenőrizze a stratégiailag fontos „Fehérvárra menő hadi út”-at.

Romantikus és érdekes történetek Rozgonyi István hőstette: A 15. században Rozgonyi István várnagy megmentette uralkodóját a törökkel vívott galambóci csatában. Ez a hőstett legendás maradt a vár történetében. Mikszáth Kálmán regéje: Mikszáth Kálmán is írt egy regét Csókakő váráról a „Magyarország lovagvárai” című művében, amely romantikus és kalandos történeteket mesél el a várról. Történelmi események Török hódoltság: 1543-ban Szulejmán szultán serege elfoglalta Székesfehérvárt, majd 1544-ben Csókakő várát is. A vár a török uralom alatt előretolt megfigyelőhely volt, helyőrsége 33 janicsárból állt. Felszabadulás: 1687 őszén szabadult fel a vár az Oszmán Birodalom uralma alól, és ezt követően már nem játszott jelentős szerepet a harci eseményekben. Változások és érdekességek Közterület és közlekedés: A vár környéke az idők során sokat változott. A 81-es útról, Győr és Székesfehérvár között autózva már messziről jól látható a fehér falú vár. A várhegy aljában található parkolóból két útvonalon is megközelíthető az építmény. Felújítások: A várat 2017-től kezdődően a Nemzeti Várprogram keretében újították fel, és napjainkban is folytatódnak a régészeti feltárások és helyreállítások.

English: History of Csókakő Castle Csókakő Castle is located on the edge of the Vértes Mountains, on the side of the 479-meter-high Csóka Hill. The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1299, when István, son of Márk, the vice-judge, lived there with his family and servants. The castle was built by the Csák clan after the Mongol invasion to control the strategically important “road to Fehérvár.”

Romantic and Interesting Stories Heroic Deed of István Rozgonyi: In the 15th century, István Rozgonyi, the castellan, saved his ruler’s life during the battle of Galambóc against the Turks. This heroic act remained legendary in the castle’s history. Mikszáth Kálmán’s Tale: Mikszáth Kálmán also wrote a tale about Csókakő Castle in his work “The Knightly Castles of Hungary,” which tells romantic and adventurous stories about the castle. Historical Events Turkish Occupation: In 1543, Sultan Suleiman’s army captured Székesfehérvár, and in 1544, Csókakő Castle as well. During the Turkish occupation, the castle served as an advanced observation post, with a garrison of 33 janissaries. Liberation: In the autumn of 1687, the castle was liberated from Ottoman rule, and thereafter it no longer played a significant role in military events. Changes and Interesting Facts Public Area and Transportation: The area around the castle has changed significantly over time. The white-walled castle is visible from afar when driving on Route 81 between Győr and Székesfehérvár. The castle can be accessed from a parking lot at the foot of the hill via two routes. Renovations: The castle has been undergoing archaeological excavations and restorations since 2017 as part of the National Castle Program, and these efforts continue to this day.

Exceptional view of the surroundings from here, well worth the visit. Renovation works are supposedly ongoing, but in terms of the castle itself, there isn't very much to see. It is free to visit, you only have to pay for parking, if you choose to use the castle's parking lot. The are two paths leading up to the ruins, one is a paved road (starts from the left) which takes approx. 7-8 minutes, the other one is through the woods (starts from the right), includes some relatively steep wooden steps and takes approx. 10-15 minutes depending on pace. There is a public lavatory using honesty box, several choices of food vendors, and lots of space for a picnic. There are also tables and benches around the park, in varying state of repair. There are also lots of opportunities here for hiking in the Vértes mountain by the taking one of marked tourist paths. Overall, it's a very good place to visit and spend the day with...

This is a beautifully preserved and refurbished castle. The entrance is free! You can of course contribute to the maintenance efforts if you wish (encouraged). You'll enter at the lowest level of the castle and there will be a lot of steep stairs going up to all the levels so be prepared to climb up tgem. It's worth it though because the views are beautiful along the way. There are a bunch of info sings all along the route with the history of the castle. There's even a small church on one of the levels. We didn't plan our visit here, just saw it from the road and decided to pop in. It was really worth it.
