Most amazing experience of seeing blue, white and black ice wash up to the beach almost mimicking diamonds hence the name and creating the most spectacular and diverse back drop one has seen in a long time. This is contrast the river with icebergs floating down to the beach. The larger ice bergs in the water are so large ie 90% under water can be unmoved by waves. These icebergs are meant to be about 500 years old! So it’s natural history in the making! There is parking for 1000 ISK which allows to park in either of the three locations around the river that flows out.

We visited in August 2022 and the beach was covered with chunks of ice. Some we could hold in our hands and some were taller than us. It absolutely exceeded expectations. Who knew ice could be that beautiful? Highly recommend. We went early in the day to try and beat the tour buses - so while it is busy to the beach, if you walk a little further down it's not too hard to escape the crowds. There is a greater concentration of ice by the inlet - but lots of amazing views in both directions on the beach.

Definitely an easy walk to the beach. And there's diamonds everywhere. We went in june and saw seals too. It's rockier near the parking lot.But as you get closer to the beach, it turns into black sand. You can park on either side and if you go across the bridge near the icebergs, you will see a place for restrooms and boat excursions. Parking is always around eight dollars, anywhere you go..
