Gonna give some some extra details for this great waterfall. Parking is free. Also, had the trail to ourselves until another couple showed up later. You enter from the parking lot through a man gate on the side of the car gate. Follow the trail to a fence that says to go to the left and follow the stream to get to the top. After that I crudely illustrated two choices. The blue way, if you have waterproof boots up to your ankles, you can cross the stream where it’s low. Then follow it to what looks like a very close spot by the base of the falls. The red way, if you don’t have waterproof shoes, you can follow the fence til it crosses the stream. At that point there’s a knoll where the barbed wire fence has fallen over to about knee height. You can cross there easily and follow the stream up to a good spot by the falls. I didn’t go the left way but if you are prepared it definitely seems like a higher pay off spot to...

The walk from the small parking area takes only about 10–15 minutes, and the view at the end is absolutely worth it – the waterfall drops in a perfect straight line with mountains all around.
On the way you pass through a meadow where Icelandic horses often graze. When we visited, they were very friendly and even seemed to enjoy posing for photos – a lovely surprise that made the walk even more memorable.
What’s great is that it’s usually quiet compared to other tourist spots, so you can really enjoy the atmosphere without the crowds. The path is easy, though a bit uneven in places, so good shoes are helpful. If you’re visiting Kirkjufell, it’s only a short detour and definitely worth adding...
Read moreOne of many, many, many beautiful waterfalls throughout Iceland. Plan about an hour when you factor in the walk to the fall. From the parking, walk through the pedestrian gate and along the road to the next gate. Turn left here and walk along the fenceline to the waterfall. As you get closer you will need to rock hop over some of the streams of water. The boulders get larger and larger as you draw closer so use caution and absolutely have good footwear if you intend to draw close. Also...as you walk in...about half way down there is a trodden path that cuts diagonally across the grassy meadow.. this does save you a few steps but I also read that this is private property so being mindful of the field is respectful. At one point you will also need to climb the little stepper over the...
