Well made walkways give you a good glimpse of the hot springs. There are signs with information about the springs in multiple languages including Icelandic, English, German, and another that I didn't recognize. The real treat is following the trail up the mountainside. The view is spectacular. The trail gets a little rough in places but is still very nice. My GPS said I traveled 0.81 miles for the decent.

The lava fields look amazing. You can see the steam coming from the puddles and the rock covered with moss look awsome. We came back here at night to watch the aurora as there is not much light pollution out here. However we were not the only one with that idea so we had to drive for some time to be completely on our own.

Iceland is a giant geological hotspot -most active volcanic regions in the world, with eruptions occurring every 3–4 years. It is due to the North Atlantic plate and the Eurasian plate which are moving apart. There are some wonderful hot springs and lava fields around with many water falls dotting the terrain.

Beautiful natural area to drive through but be careful when it’s snowy. Some of the roads uphill were icy with no guardrails and my car was sliding all over. It was pretty scary but I chose to pull onto a gravel road and it gave me more traction. I saw other cars slip and slide by though. I was there in May and it was not touristy with hardly any people driving through and very rustic. Saw a beautiful mountain with a naturally formed green heart on the side, the beautiful lake, geothermal areas and snow capped mountains. Definitely worth it and way better than Thingvellir...

From the view point or parking area of the place, we have a stunning view of turquoise color water lake and black sand beach of the both side and the mountains on the opposite side. When the day we visited here, the weather is not clear and very windy. Be careful when taken the photos near to the cliff. It's worth to stop by to take a fresh breath and photos....
