My visit to Hofskirkja with Bus Travel Iceland was an enriching experience that seamlessly combined cultural exploration and comfortable travel. The journey to Hofskirkja, a turf church in the tranquil countryside, was made even more enjoyable by the knowledgeable guides who shared fascinating insights into Iceland's history and architectural heritage during the bus ride. Hofskirkja itself was a charming gem, with its distinctive turf exterior blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The guided tour provided a deeper understanding of the church's significance and the traditional building techniques used in its construction. The serene ambiance of the countryside added to the overall tranquility of the visit. Bus Travel Iceland demonstrated a commitment to customer satisfaction, ensuring a smooth and well-organized excursion. The bus was comfortable, and the punctuality of the schedule allowed for a stress-free day of exploration. One consideration for future travelers is the weather, as Iceland's conditions can be unpredictable. Dressing in layers and being prepared for various weather scenarios will enhance the overall enjoyment of the trip. In summary, my visit to Hofskirkja with Bus Travel Iceland was not only a cultural journey but also a testament to the company's dedication to providing a memorable and educational travel experience.

Beautiful little church with iconic grass / moss roof. Our tour guide explained that this style of church was being created back in the old days and that this particular church is a more luxury version of it it, since it has more wood than usually. There were no other tourist busses when we were there, but I can believe it can become busy in the summer months.

The last turf church of Iceland

The church was built in 1884, and was the last turf church built in the old style. It is one of six churches still standing, which are preserved as historical monuments. The church is maintained by the National Museum but also serves as a parish church. The church was built by the carpenter Pall Palsson. The lock and hinges of the church door were made by borsteinn Gissurarson, called „tool", who was a well-known blacksmith. The water tub he used to cool hot iron can be seen south of the churchyard.

In order to preserve this historical monument, entry inside is not permitted but you can admire its beauty from...

Saw this church as a lock screen image on Windows 10. Happened to be driving by the church on a road trip around Iceland and had to stop in. It's right off the main road, so was super quick to stop off and check out for a minute. There are a couple nice displays that elaborates on the history of the church, which was cool to read about as well. Worth...
