The car park here is free! But is also very small so can be busy.

I parked here for free, then crossed the road, walked past the pond/lake opposite kirkjufell and took some nice reflection photos, and then continued walking to the famous waterfall and paid for car park area to take the photo that everyone takes - the one with kirkjufell in the background and the waterfall in the foreground. It took 10-15 mins walk one way.

Arguably the view here is a nicer angle than the one from the paid for car park with the waterfall, and after dark, depending on the time of year and where the moon is, you might get a better picture of kirkjufell with northern lights here because the moon can cast a weird shadow on the bottom half of kirkjufell when taken from the paid for car park. Hence, it's a good idea to take pictures from here and the paid for car park and compare.

There are no...

Kirkjufell stands as an iconic testament to Iceland's breathtaking natural beauty. Its distinctive, spear-like peak, often crowned by dramatic skies, makes it one of the most photographed landscapes globally, and for good reason. Visiting Kirkjufell offers more than just a photo opportunity; it provides a profound sense of tranquility. There's an undeniable calmness that emanates from this majestic mountain. You can easily spend a significant amount of time here, simply sitting and absorbing the serene vistas. The surrounding landscape, often mirrored in the still waters below, enhances its ethereal charm.

It's a place that genuinely grows on you, leaving an indelible mark long after you've departed. Kirkjufell is an absolute must-see for anyone seeking to connect with the raw, untouched...

TIP: please stop by this viewpoint! It’s free and gives you a nice prospective to see the mountain. No waterfall, but it’s free and you don’t pay for the whole day like at the other parking lot. We stopped here twice and each time spend appx. 30 min just enjoying and making pictures, even saw a rainbow. It was not crowded at...
