Lögberg is part of the National Park of Iceland. This is where you can jump from the American tectonic plate to the European one, all within a short walk. The American one is very well shaped and can be seen directly cut off from the other land. It's an amazing site that gives you the best possible visualization of the geological structures. Within the park there are numerous well-paved paths where you can roam between the plates, some lakes and small streams and learn also about the history of Iceland with its habits back in the old days where people were put to death near those lakes for various offenses. Read moreThis was pretty awesome -- the absolute heart of the site of Iceland's first parliament (Alþingi) almost 11 centuries ago, AND a site where Iceland is slowly spreading apart as the North American tectonic plate moves west and the Eurasian plate moves east. The location in Þingvellir National Park is part of a striking natural landscape. Actual site of the original Lögberg is uncertain, but present day marker is at or close to the original. Read moreAbsolutely beautiful drive to Lögberg. Such a peaceful and thoughtful place - until you get to the top where there is an infestation of tour buses. I loved this place until it was overrun with 100s of tourists. The viewing platform was completely overcrowded with groups of people ignoring their tour guides and then being shuffled straight into the gift shop.
