The day we went was 7/16. It was overcast and rain clouds hovered to the east. It turns out, this was the day the volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula erupted, which affected the weather for the following couple of weeks throughout Iceland. For the Ísafjörður area this meant rain, thunder and lightning, which started about the time we got to the top of this waterfall. We were later told this was the third time in the last forty years they'd had thunder and lightning.
It's quite the trail. I don't recommend it while it's raining because it can be slick and there are some steep spots. There were ropes to grab onto in those areas though. There are lots of photo ops along the trail.
There is a campground nearby but the WCs there are only for campers. So there are no services...

There is a small carpark area just below a trailhead and short trek up the stream and to the falls. It is a fairly steady uphill walk that takes in a few viewing points of the falls. At the top views of the surrounding countryside are nice.

Read morenice cheeky little lunch spot. great for a picnic or a hang. late april was a nice time to visit. good coverage from the wind, which is especially beneficial in an area like this. located below a little ski hill/resort. good views. not a bad idea to hang here for a little bit before ripping through the massive tunnel up the road a little bit. if you’re in the area and looking for a budget lunch option, my recommendation- stop at a grocery store and load up on sandwich ingredients, then bring them here for a lovely way to spend some time with friends and enjoy...
