A beautiful encapsulation of critical Icelandic history through the story of Jón.
We were surprised to find such a lovely treasure where we did. The road out there is a little rough (2WD is fine) and there’s nothing else nearby. But it was worth the trip on its own!
We also enjoyed the small church next door and the neighboring historical building (which also has a cafe - wonderful owner to chat with too!).
Overall, a great stop for those wanting to understanding a little bit more behind Iceland, it’s strong people, and the European influences that have bled in.

Read moreThis was a peaceful and historically rich farmstead — once home to chieftains and now a tribute to Jón Sigurðsson, a key figure in Iceland’s path to independence. The turf-roof houses and charming museum, along with Icelandic cafe gave a perfect taste of local heritage and hospitality. Toilets were good, especially the disabled one. Free admission to the museum This modern museum is informative and interactive, great place to learn about the farther of Iceland.
