Just a stone's throw away from the City of Masbate, you'll find this natural attraction that is known for its pristine sand, crystal-clear waters and a rich biodiversity of marine life. A few meters from its sandy shore, you can snorkel or scuba dive and you'll be surprised to see a healthy clutch of giant clams or taklobo (Tridacna gigas) and living corals or anthozoans and cnidarians (Acropora spp.). Designated as an eco-tourism site, it has become a popular destination for day trip tourists and visitors esp those who advocate sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. Buntod Reef Sanctuary is an ideal site to promote marine and fisheries conservation awareness, and to showcase sustainable livelihood interventions like ecotourism. The minimal development of the area is through the initiative of LGU-Masbate City, while operation and maintenance of the site is handled by a fisherfolk association, the SAMAPUSI (Samahan ng Mga Mangingisda ng Puro at Sinalikway). Buntod Beach: A Hidden Paradise in Masbate Buntod Beach in Masbate, Philippines, is an absolute gem. This unique island sanctuary offers a truly unforgettable experience. Upon arrival, the entire area is seemingly submerged, but as the tide recedes, the island transforms into two distinct zones. One side, with its shallow waters, is perfect for children and non-swimmers. The other side, however, requires caution as the water depth increases rapidly, making it unsuitable for those who aren't confident swimmers. The island's proximity to the city makes it easily accessible via well-organized public transportation. This convenience, coupled with its stunning natural beauty, makes Buntod Beach an ideal destination for a day trip or a longer stay. Whether you're seeking a tranquil escape or an adventure-filled getaway, Buntod Beach has something to offer everyone.

This place is great for and short term get away. Check the wind and tide forecast before going. Boats to the sand bar are located in a green shed on the water passed the nursery high school. They sell cold drinks including beer, spirits and snacks on the sand bar unless you would like to bring your own food. Take care the boat operators will try charge you extra for the snorkling equipment. Take notice of prices on the government board before selecting and extras. Good place to relax with a cold drink and a quick swim but not really worth snorkling here.

It may not be a rare gem for travelers anymore, but it surely is still a must-visit place in Masbate! Best time to go here is during sunny days so you will be able to witness its turquoise blue waters. Perfect for photos! You may not know it but visiting this place lets you help the fisher folks who used to be challenged by extreme poverty in the past. The place is managed by them. So let's keep this sandbar a true sanctuary by maintaining its cleanliness to ensure that the future generations could also benefit from its beauty and biodiversity. 😉

Buntod Reef. First time to be here. The reef is beautiful. White sand beach during low tide is exposed and you can walk in it. I tried myself to soak and covered with the white sand. A 15 minute motorized boat ride from the Masbate City. Don't forget to bring your googles and snorkel to view the marine corals in the area. For the meantime, it's time to swim and take pictures for Facebook and Google. Hehehehe. Next time I return to Masbate, I'll return here. Thank you!

One of the most serene beaches I have ever been to! And guess what? This is just 15 to 30 minutes away from the city. And free! When its about cleanliness, Buntod Reef is on the list. It also has a sandbar where everyone can do a sunbathing. The child of one of the store owner is really kind. I went there on my own, and the locals are really nice. It was like my own private sanctuary. Masbate is really an amazing place! Be sure to stay and watch the sunset. <3
