Bikkavolu, with a history of 1,100 years, is one of the oldest temples in Andhra Pradesh. Located on the banks of the Godavari, Bikkavolu has great spiritual and historical significance and is famous for its many ancient temples built in the glory of the Eastern Chalukyas.

This place was first named 'Vikramapuram' after the Chalukya Vikrama, and during the reign of Gunaga Vijayaditya III, it was renamed 'Birudankinavolu' between 849-892 AD and later as 'Bikkavolu'.
