Godavari Maha Pushkara Vanam is attracting many people on holidays with its its lush green lawns, picturesque places, walking tracks etc. It is located in the vicinity of Rajamahendravaram, accessible to the city dwellers adjucent to national highway 16.
The vanam was designed suitably to provide wholesome natural environment for recreation and education. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the vanam in connection with Godavari Maha Pushkaram-2015, as a landmark of the celestial fete.
The number of walkers are increasing both morning and evening, as the vanam is located in a forest area boasting with natural beauty. The management also provided cycles to the visitors by charging an amount of Rs 50, to go round the vanam.
Meanwhile, a walk on the 5kms length of walking track in the natural forest area is another thrill in the vanam. Many vanams were designed linked with astrology and the vanams are-Nakshatra Vanam, Raasi Vanam, Karthika Vanam, Navagraha Vanam and Panchavati Vanam etc that depict vedic and astrological significance of plants and earth.
Other facilities such as---yoga kendra, wilderness garden, childrens park, nature interpretation centre, marine museum, iinterpretative signage, cycling, sererne walk, medicinal garden and arboretum etc are also available in the vanam.
As it is adjucent to the national highway, many passing through that area are using the vanam for a rest-stop. The government is planning to develop the vanam in its 92 hectars, which becomes the largest vanam in the state.The Government of Andhra Pradesh through Forest Department organized “Godavari Maha Pushkara Vanam” at Rajahmundry on 26th July, 2015, as a tribute and saluting to the River Godavari for its blessings to the people living in its catchment and its course of flow till its confluence at Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh. This programme has been conceptualized and nourished by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the chief architect of “Navya Andhra Pradesh”. This programme started by celebrating tree planting in the Diwan Cheruvu premises of Rajahmundry and made the audience a pledge to plant trees more to reach the target of 50 crore tree plantation in the state.

Former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the GMPV on the first day of Godavari Maha Pushakarams--2015, a tribute to the celestial festival.
The Forest Department designed an action plan to make it a tourist hub which was located in an area of 250 acres in the reserve forest. Daily at least 500 people are visiting the Vanam and 1,000 people on holidays.
A five km long walking track was arranged for walkers which is getting a good response. Plastic was totally banned in the Vanam and the authorities are providing clay water bottles by paying a refundable deposit of Rs 100 and cycles on the refundable deposit of Rs 50 to the visitors.
