Mandapalli Shaneeswaralayam — Attraction in Andhra Pradesh

This is the temple where Lord Sani becomes pleased upon performance of Thailabhishekam to lord Shiva. The following abhishekams are performed for the Lord Shiva who is known as Lord Saneeswara in this temple:

Mahanyasa Thailabhishekam : The temple charges Rs. 70/- for this Pooja. The pooja articles are supplied by the shopkeepers at a cost of Rs. 250/-. The pooja is mostly performed by the brahmins who come from outside the temple. It takes about one hour for this pooja. The pooja is performed within the precincts of the temple, but not within the garbha gudi.

Mahanyasa poorvaka Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam : The temple charges Rs. 100/- for this pooja. The pooja articles are supplied by the shopkeepers at a cost of Rs. 350/- The pooja is mostly performed by the brahmins who come from outside the temple. The pooja takes about three hours. Who ever wants to perform this pooja should specifically inform the brahmin that they want the pooja to be performed for them separately without mixing up them with other devotees. The pooja is performed within the precincts of the temple but not within the garbha gudi.

Both the above mentioned abhishekams are also performed by the temple priests. But due to the local conditions they do not interfere when the brahmins from outside the temple perform the above poojas.

Mandapalli shaneshwaralayam is well known place , people with Shani dosha visit this place. Ritual on Saturdays are auspicious. It is best to sleep at night in temple and do ritual on the next day. The moola Virat is established by mahamuni agastya. This temple have its own sthala purana. Temple is tidy but slippery, pooja starts at 4:30 am. People are the place are friendly, i personally have pooja done by main pujari koteshwar Sharma garu. His ucharan is good.

Things to note:

Those with saade sati..should visit the place a the previous day night and sleep in the temple. Carry your bedkit along

Make sure to complete pooja early in the morning. Pandits visit the place and pooja starts from 4:30 am onwards

500 rs ticket to perform pooja before moola Virat, 150 rs ticket for pooja to be done in temple mandapam. I suggest rs 150 ticket

People can also give danam like salt/navadanyam/nuvvulu & swayampakam etc. These are usually not accepted in all temples, donating these will have shanis good blessings on us and reduce the doshas

Temple pujari will give the instructions, once pooja is done. It is good to leave the clothes there itself and leave the place. DONOT LOOK/GO BACK. Make a visit to Hanuman temple nearby and read Hanuman chalisa after changing clothes.

శని వదిలినట్టే! (మందేశ్వర(శనేశ్వర) స్వామి దేవాలయం)

శనిదేవుడు ఒక్కసారి పట్టుకుంటే, ఏడేళ్లవరకూ మనచుట్టే తారట్లాడుతుంటాడని పేరు. ఆ మందగమనుడు శివలింగాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించిన క్షేత్రమే, తూర్పు గోదావరి జిల్లాలోని మందపల్లి. అభిషేక ప్రియుడైన మందేశ్వరుడిని పూజిస్తే, శని ప్రభావం వదిలిపోతుందని భక్తుల విశ్వాసం.

శనీశ్వరుడికి సంబంధించి ఎన్నో కథలు. పట్టుకుంటే ఓపట్టాన వదలడంటారు. నలమహారాజును సైతం ముప్పుతిప్పలు పెట్టి మూడు చెరువుల నీళ్లు తాగించాడని చెబుతారు. దేవతలకి కూడా దడపుట్టించగల మహాశక్తిమంతుడన్న ఖ్యాతి. ఎన్ని వేధింపులైనా ఆ క్షేత్రానికి అవతలే! ఒక్కసారి తూర్పుగోదావరి జిల్లా, కొత్తపేట మండలంలోని మందపల్లిలో వెలసిన మందేశ్వరుడిని దర్శించుకుంటే...శని ప్రభావం మటుమాయమైపోతుందని ప్రగాఢ విశ్వాసం. ఎందుకంటే, అక్కడి శివలింగాన్ని సాక్షాత్తూ శనిదేవుడే ప్రతిష్ఠించాడని ఐతిహ్యం. మందేశ్వరుడికి తైలాభిషేకాలు జరిపితే, శని వల్ల కలిగే సమస్త దోషాల నుంచీ విముక్తి లభించినట్టేనని బలమైన నమ్మకం.

మందేశ్వర పురాణం..

పూర్వం, ప్రస్తుతం మందపల్లిగా పిలుస్తున్న ప్రాంతం దండకారణ్యంలో భాగంగా ఉండేది. ఇక్కడ మహర్షుల ఆశ్రమాలు ఉండేవి. నిత్యం యజ్ఞయాగాదులు జరిగేవి. ఆ పరిసరాల్లోనే అశ్వత్థుడు, పిప్పలుడు అనే బ్రహ్మ రాక్షసులు నివసించేవారు. అశ్వత్థుడు రావిచెట్టు రూపంలోనూ పిప్పలుడు బ్రాహ్మణుడి రూపంలోనూ కనిపిస్తూ యజ్ఞయాగాలకు ఆటంకం కలిగించేవారు. అంతటితో ఆగకుండా, యాజ్ఞికులను చంపి తినేవారు. ఫలితంగా, బ్రాహ్మణ సంతతి అంతరించిపోసాగింది. అదంతా గ్రహదోష ఫలితమేనని భావించిన మహర్షులు శనీశ్వరుడిని ప్రార్థించి, రాక్షస కృత్యాలను నిరోధించాలని కోరారు.

శనిదేవుడు ఆ బ్రహ్మ రాక్షసులిద్దరినీ ఒక్క దెబ్బతో సంహరించాడు. ఫలితంగా, శనీశ్వరుడిని బ్రహ్మహత్యా దోషం పట్టి పీడించసాగింది. దాన్ని నివారించుకోడానికి ఏం చేయాలో అర్థం కాలేదు. సాయం కోసం మహర్షుల్ని సంప్రదించాడు. పరమశివుడు మాత్రమే ఆ పాతకాన్ని పరిహరించగలడని చెప్పారు. దీంతో శనిదేవుడు మందపల్లిలో శివలింగాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించాడు. ఒక్కసారి పట్టుకున్నాక వదిలే తత్వం కాదు శనిగ్రహానిది. అందుకే, మందగమనుడనీ, మందుడనీ పిలుస్తారు. మందుడు ప్రతిష్ఠించిన శివలింగం కాబట్టి, మందేశ్వరుడన్న పేరు వచ్చింది. క్షేత్రం చుట్టూ వెలసిన పల్లె మందపల్లిగా ప్రాచుర్యంలోకి వచ్చింది.

మరో కథనం ప్రకారం...ఓసారి నారదుడికీ పరమశివుడికీ మధ్య శని గొప్పదనం విషయంలో ఓ చర్చ జరిగింది. అది కాస్తా ‘ఎవరు గొప్ప?’ అన్న వివాదంగా మారింది. ‘చేతనైతే నన్ను పీడించమను..’ అంటూ ఆవేశంగా సవాలు విసిరాడు శివుడు. ‘ఒక్క క్షణం అయినా శివుడిని పీడించి తీరతాను’ అంటూ నారదుడి ముందు ప్రతిజ్ఞ చేశాడు శని. దీంతో, ఆ గ్రహరాజుకు తన ఆనవాలు తెలియకుండా శివుడు కైలాసాన్ని వీడివచ్చి... మందపల్లిలో తలదాచుకున్నాడు. ‘దేవదేవుడివైన నువ్వు సామాన్యుడిలా దండకారణ్యం దాకా వచ్చావంటే, అదంతా నా ప్రభావం కాదంటావా స్వామీ?’ అంటూ శని పరమేశ్వరుడి పాదాల మీద పడ్డాడు. శివుడిని పీడించిన పాపానికి ప్రాయశ్చిత్తంగా లింగాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించాడు.

క్షేత్రపాలకుడు...

ఆలయ ప్రాంగణంలోనే పార్వతీదేవి, ఉమా బ్రహ్మేశ్వరుడు, ఉమా నాగేశ్వరుడు వెలిశారు. క్షేత్రపాలకుడిగా వేణుగోపాలస్వామి పూజలు అందుకుంటున్నాడు. పూర్వం బ్రహ్మ ఇక్కడ ఓ యజ్ఞాన్ని తలపెట్టాడట. క్రతువు పూర్తయిన తర్వాత కూడా, యజ్ఞగుండంలోని నిప్పు ఎంతకీ చల్లారకపోవడంతో... గౌతమ మహర్షి గోదావరి నదిని గుండం మీదుగా ప్రవహింపజేశాడు. అప్పుడు కానీ, అగ్నిదేవుడు శాంతించలేదు. ఆతర్వాత బ్రహ్మ ఈ ప్రాంతంలో శివలింగాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించాడనీ, అదే బ్రహ్మేశ్వరుడిగా ప్రసిద్ధమైందనీ ఐతిహ్యం. కర్కోటకుడనే సర్పరాజు ఇక్కడ ఘోర తపస్సు చేశాడని అంటారు. శివ సాక్షాత్కారం తర్వాత, మందపల్లి క్షేత్రంలో దివ్యలింగాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించాడని చెబుతారు.

ఇక్కడి నాగేశ్వరుడిని అభిషేకించినవారికి సర్పభయాలూ సర్పదోషాలూ ఉండవని వరమిచ్చినట్టు పురాణ కథనం. ఈ క్షేత్రంలో గౌతమ మహర్షి వేణుగోపాలస్వామిని కూడా ప్రతిష్ఠించాడు. దీంతో మందపల్లికి గోపాల క్షేత్రంగానూ పేరొచ్చింది. రుక్ష్మిణి, సత్యభామ సమేత వేణుగోపాలుడి కల్యాణం ఏటా మాఘశుద్ధ ఏకాదశి నాడు వైభవంగా జరుగుతుంది. మాఘ బహుళ దశమి నుంచి ఫాల్గుణ శుద్ధ విదియ వరకూ మందేశ్వర (శనీశ్వర) స్వామి కల్యాణోత్సవం నిర్వహిస్తారు. రాజమహేంద్రవరం రైల్వేస్టేషన్‌ నుంచి రావులపాలెం మీదుగా అమలాపురం వెళ్లే మార్గంలో...
