One day, during her stay on the Tirumala Hills,Anjana Deviās son,the young Hanuman (Bala Hanuman) wanted to leave the Tirumala hills and go out in search of a Camel..To prevent her beloved son from doing that,His mother Anjana Devi had tied both His hands, with hand cuffs (Bedi),and ordered Him to stay right there until she returns..ā
ā..Bala Hanuman, with all the respect for His beloved mother, very obediently nodded His head and promised her that He would certainly be staying there until she comes back..Later,leaving Hanuman there all alone,Anjana Devi left the Tirumala Hills and moved to Himalayas..ā
ā..After that, for some strange reasons,Anjana Devi never came back to the Tirumala Hills and she settled down near the Akash Ganga in Himalayas..Sincerely obeying His beloved motherās orders, the legend says,Bala Hanuman is still standing there, even today,on the Tirumala Hills right in front of the holy Mahadwaaram of the Tirumala Temple, waiting for His motherās return from the Himalayas..ā
But Lord Sri Venkateswara Did Not Neglect Bala Hanuman,His Ardent Disciple..
Watching His beloved disciple standing all alone in front of His Temple,Lord Sri Venkateswara instructed His Temple priests to offer timely food to Bala Hanuman each and everyday and take good care of Him until His mother returns..
It is for this reason alone that every time neivedyam is offered to Holy Lord Sri Venkateswara and Varahaswamy everyday, the same naivedyam is brought to this temple and offered to Lord Hanuman..
After finishing the pada yatra ,itās also auspicious to visit this Temple and offer Bala Hanuman our thanks and seek His blessing for giving us the strength to climb the seven hills..With this intention many devotees visit this Temple and offer their thanks to Bala Hanuman..
Thereās also in front of the Mahadwaaram of the Srivari Temple ,the Akhanda Jyothi more popularly known as āAKHILANDAMā, the ever burning oil lamp..Scores of pilgrims, after walking up the seven hills, visit this Akhilandam; break a coconut there; light a camphor and end their pada yatra..

Ā Ā Ā Read moreDuring our descent from Tirumala, we visited the Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple, located directly opposite the main entrance of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple. This small yet significant temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and holds a unique place in the rich tapestry of Tirumalaās spiritual heritage.
Historical Significance:
According to legend, young Hanuman wished to embark on a journey in search of a camel. To prevent this, his mother, Anjana Devi, bound his hands with cuffs (ābediā) and instructed him to stay put until her return. Obediently, Hanuman remained at that spot, and Anjana Devi, it is believed, stayed back near Akasa Ganga and never returned to this place. Consequently, the templeās idol depicts Hanuman with his hands in a restrained posture, symbolizing this tale. ļæ¼
In Vaishnavite tradition, it is customary to have either Garuda or Anjaneya opposite the main temple. In Tirumala, Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami stands as the devoted sentinel to Lord Venkateswara, embodying unwavering devotion and service. ļæ¼
Visiting Experience:
The temple is easily accessible, situated on Sannidhi Street, just a short walk from the main temple complex. Despite its modest size, the temple exudes a profound sense of serenity and devotion. We were particularly moved by the Sunday Abhishekam rituals, where special offerings are made, and the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa fills the air with spiritual fervor. Visiting during Hanuman Jayanti is especially auspicious, as the temple celebrates with grandeur and devotion. ļæ¼
Recommendations: ⢠Timing: The temple is open from early morning until late evening. Visiting during the early hours provides a tranquil experience. ⢠Attire: As with all temples in Tirumala, modest attire is recommended. ⢠Photography: Please note that photography inside the temple premises is generally discouraged to maintain the sanctity of the space.
In conclusion, the Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami Temple is a must-visit for those seeking to delve deeper into the legends surrounding Tirumala. Its unique history and serene ambiance offer a reflective pause amidst the bustling spiritual landscape...
