Maddi Anjaneya Swamy Temple History
Treta Yuga
The Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy Temple is a testament to the devotion and loyalty of a devotee and his sacrifice to seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman. The story begins with a demon in the courts of Ravana called Madvasura in the Treta Yuga. He was one of the biggest admirers of Hanuman and was in an extreme dilemma between loyalty towards Ravana and a sense of devotion towards his God. He surrendered his life and embraced his final breath while taking Hanuman’s sacred name.
Dwapara Yuga
He was reborn as Madvakudu during the Dwapara Yuga and fought alongside Kauravas. He faced the same dilemma when he stood opposite Lord Hanuman atop Arjuna’s chariot. He dies on purpose to end his predicament of standing against his Lord.
Kali Yuga
He had the fate to return in the form of Madvudu in the Kali Yuga, where he started his spiritual journey by going around the Indian subcontinent in search of spiritual progress. He made his way to the banks of Yerrakaluva, where he began his penance. One day, he almost tripped on the bank, and a monkey saved him from drowning. After strict meditation during his penance, he learned that the monkey was none other than Lord Hanuman. Content from his devotion, loyalty and sincerity, Lord Hanuman asked him to ask for a wish. He asked to always stay near Hanuman and serve him. His wish was granted, and Madvudu became the Maddi Tree. He resided here with his Lord forever at Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy Temple.

After few days the maharshi looked at the monkey and came to know that the monkey was Anjaneyaswamy and requested the monkey (Anjaneyaswamy) to pardon him.
