Situated at a distance of about 12 kms from Nellore, the village is a part of Bucchireddipalem Mandal. This temple helps the small village of Jonnawada to bring its significance on the maps of Andhra Pradesh.
It is said that in Tretayuga, the great sage Kashyapa, visited bhoolokam (the Earth) in order to perform Yagnam. He chose north of Vedadri as Yagna Vatika (place to perform Yagna). After the completion of his Maha Yagna, a bright light appeared which spread on the entire bhoolokam. The sage Kashyapa performed Yagnam here in order to please Lord Mallikarjuna Swami. The lord, who was pleased with his devotion, appeared from the fire of Yagna and blessed the sage. From then on Jonnawada is also called as 'Yagnavatika Jonnawada'. The temple is famous for Sri Mallikarjuna swamy and Kamakshi amma temple constructed in the year 1150. The goddess Kamakshi is believed as an incarnation of Shakti. A 'Sri Chakram' was installed here by Sri Jagadguru Adhi Sankaracharya. This temple is dedicated to goddess Kamakshi Tai, one of the variations of Shakti. The temple entrance door, Dwaja Sthabham (Flag mast) and the Gopuram (tower) of the temple adorning with five kalasams (pots) on the top are made out of gold.
The locals believe that praying to the Goddess Kamakshi Tai would relieve one from hurdles and diseases. According to them, if anyone who is taken over by evil sprits, sleep in the temple premises for few nights, they will overcome their problem and get cured.
The temple is open for devotees during timings 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 4:30...

Some times she comes into people body and tell them what she needed and why she came. I saw this on my own. It is hard to believe in this century but one who feel the God, should believe. She is so powerful. People worship her very seriously as their family god. In the days of Vijaya Dasami or Navaratri people worship her daily for the whole 9 days and sleep in temple itself. They call it as NOMU. Seperate facility for bathing is available. Paid Shoe and cheppal stands also available.
Free darshan is also there along with paid darshan. Paid darshan cost around ₹10 or ₹20. You can watch the God near by the entrance and you can get blessings from priest individually. Tonsure can be done here for all kind of people. Need to buy ticket for this.
One great thing is, the management is providing free food in lunch time in all the days. They call it as Nithya Annadanam. People donate money for this.
