According to legend, Champawati, the daughter of a king named Hangsadhwaj, bathed in the pool beneath the waterfall on the day of Maghi Saptami. The waterfall was named Champawati after that princess. It's a local belief that bathing in this pool on Maghi Saptami brings blessings and cures diseases. There's some more legendary tales regarding the origin of the Champawati Waterfall. According to one such story, King Hansadhwaj, mentioned in the epic Mahabharata, ruled over the region of Chapanala. He had a daughter named Champawati, a princess of extraordinary beauty. Her charm was so captivating that Brahmaputra, the son of the god Brahma fell in love with her. However, before this divine love could be fulfilled, Lord Krishna, who's far more powerful than Brahmaputra too became captivated by Champawati’s extraordinary beauty and expressed his desire to marry her. But Champawati was in love with Brahmaputra and her heart belonged to him. She's consumed by sorrow, knowing that they might never truly connect so she transformed herself into a stone. It is believed by the local people that this very stone form of Champawati became the Champawati Waterfall that exists today.

What a beauty! Only problem is people have littered all over the place. Humans are spoiling every corner of our Earth. I request all people visiting to get back the trash and dispose it properly and not throw it in water bodies or jungles. The place is connected with a 4Km trek. Takes 30-45mins for average trekker. The trek is tight at certain corners and one has to be really careful while crossing streams. You need to carry water proof shoes if you want to be comfortable. The base of the waterfall is like a small jacuzzi. Its a beautiful place, dont spoil it. If you can bring trash back, you would contribute towards preserving it.
