Just Wooow😲. First time I have ever visited into any museum, and this museum is very well established, clean and good for Photography. You can find 19th century items too here, including coins, stamps of every country, old telephones, old cameras etc.
The museum has been established for preservation of materials from the over 120 years of the coal mining history in this part of the world. The Margherita-Ledo coal mining story started in the year 1881 when British-owned Assam Railways and Trading Company (ARTC) discovered the black diamond in this part of the country and the actual mining had started in the year 1884. The museum will also provide materials for research works in geology and mining. It may also be mentioned that the first Director of the company was Dr. John Berry White who also pioneered the first Medical School at Dibrugarh that has subsequently been upgraded to the present-day Assam Medical College. The upkeep condition can get better because I observed a lot of equipment getting corroded due to lack of shelter and proper caretaking. A suggestion to Coal India- If you can devise some mechanism to employ students as an apprentice for a few Months or six months for upkeep of the Museum. This can be beneficial for all, The Students will get experience, certificate and stipend, The Coal India Museum will get face uplift and fresh energetic employees, The Visitors will get an enriching experience. If such a system is already in place, please get them motivated by talk, token or target.
