Read moreThe Lachit Borphukhan’s Maidam is one of the places of interest in the city. It is a memorial stone which had been built in the memory of Lachit Borphukan who was an Ahom general. He had excellent military skills and fought very bravely in the battle of Saraighat to conquer back Guwahati from the Mughals. He was also known to have great leadership skills. After a year of the victory at Saraighat, Lachit Borphukan passed away due to some serious health issues. After his sad demise this maidam was constructed by Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha in the year 1672. The remains of this great warrior lie here and he is still remembered and honored by the people of Assam. A visit to this maidam is a very important part of tourism to Jorhat by which we can all pay our homage and respect to this great soul. Lachit Borphukhan’s Maidam in urban area of the state is a vibrant place to be visited and is a perfect blend of modernity and tradition.
