Destroyed and rebuilt multiple times due to invasions and natural disasters, it was later reconstructed in its current form by Ahom king Rajeswar Singha in the 18th century, who retained its original architectural style. The temple complex is known for its classic Assamese architecture, with a large central dome surrounded by smaller domes and intricately carved sculptures depicting Hindu deities. Negheriting Temple’s serene and scenic setting adds to its spiritual ambiance, as it is surrounded by lush greenery, and offers a panoramic view of the Brahmaputra Valley. Negheriting Shiva Doul is one of the most famous Doul of Assam, situated on a hillock, about 1½kms from the NH37- Negheriting Chariali nd 3kms from Dergaon Chariali of Golaghat District.. The Temple was built around 8th - 9th century AD by the Kacharis , but due to some natural calamities it came into destruction.. Later on the Ahom King - Sargadeu Rajeswar Singha re-constructed it in 1687.. Now the word Negheriting was derived from the word "Negheri" which was once the habitat of a bird locally known as Negheri.. Another interesting factor of this Temple is the Monkeys over here, let me tell they are really very mischievous.. They will loot u up with all of ur offering that u take for ur worship, if u are unconscious while carrying them u.. The place is really very beautiful, with a plain surface despite being on a hillock nd with big big trees.. One can easily feel the atmosphere to his heart by spending some time there, after doing ones prayer.. The road from NH, is cover by a Tea garder on both sides to the Doul, Nearest to the Doul, there is Kali Mandir also in between the Tea garden which is Very famous with the locals.. Imp Note - People visiting for the 1st time , please park ur vehicle near to some stall nd kindly ask the vendors to look after ur vehicles otherwise the Monkeys will destroy ur vehicle..I have personally face that problem inspite of being known to that fact..
