ॐ नमः शिवाय 🔱 || Ambika Kalna 108 New Kailash Temple || Kalna's current name is Ambika Kalna. Kalna is mentioned in the Mangalkavya as "Amba Muluk". On the banks of the river Bhagirathi, Amba was a significant river port of that era. Kalna and Amba are shown as two separate places in a map made by Mr. Rennell in the seventeenth century. This place became more famous after the arrival of Mahaprabhu in later times; The name is Ambikanagar. The 108 Shiva Temple, also known as Nab Kailash Temple, was built in 1609 by King Tejchandra of Burdwan. It is said that this temple was built to celebrate the transfer and ownership of royal property in Bishnupur. There are 108 Atchala temples in two concentric circles, 34 in inner circle and 64 in outer circle. This temple may have been built with the 108 Rudrakshas of Japmala in mind (ref: researcher Yajneshwar Chowdhury). Of the 64 temples in the outer circle, one is white and one is black, and all the 34 temples in the inner circle have white Shivlings. That is, a total of 61 white and 36 black Shivlings. According to researchers, white is a symbol of abandonment and black is a symbol of enjoyment. Hence the establishment of white and black Shivlings to evoke consciousness or knowledge from two opposite senses. There are two doors in each circle of this temple. One to the north of the first circle, one to the south. In the inner circle one is east, the other is west. No more than four Shivlings can be seen from any place in the temple. The Gauripattas above the Shivling face north. As the circle rotates, the direction of Gauripatta also faces north. More than 200 years old, these temples are built in an extraordinary geometric environment, which is truly amazing.

It is said that Rani Bishnukumari (Widow Of Raja Tilakchand Of Bardhaman) received divine instructions to construct such a temple in her dreams. According to her wish, the temple was built and was completed in 1788. On weekend we plan to visit "Kalna" and set up for our journey by car through Kalyani Expressway, cross the bridge (Ishwar Setu)and drive further on Assam Road for nearly an hour (Stopped In The Middle For Fresh Coconut Water)and reach Kalna. This place is one of the major attractions of Bardhaman Town after Bijoy Toron and Golap Bag and Bardhaman Rajbari - now part of Bardhaman University Well maintained and freshly painted, this is a complex of 108 Shiv Mandirs (Shiva Temples) in tandem with a central waterbody. There is a nice car parking in the front, which charge Rs 20/- The place , unlike most temples , are nice and clean . The only think lacking was that the Shiva temples didn't have any name individually,as in Hindu culture,Shiva has numerous names. Here no name/signage was in view. This place is near a huge public bus terminus on the Bolpur route Serenity and calmness made us sit down under the shades of the tress and enjoy the godly ambiance. There is a pond in the middle and around it. You need around 20-30mins to walk calmly around the circumference. A must see and the best thing is it is away from the center of the town which makes the area calm.

The 108 Shiva temples in Bardhaman (formerly known as Burdwan) are a remarkable architectural and religious ensemble located in the Indian state of West Bengal. Constructed during the 17th century by King Raja Bijoy Chand, these temples form a unique cluster dedicated to Lord Shiva. Each temple is relatively small, with simple yet elegant designs, adorned with terracotta panels depicting various scenes from Hindu mythology, daily life, and social customs of that era. The temples are arranged in two concentric circles, with the larger outer circle consisting of 74 temples and the smaller inner circle comprising 34 temples. The central temple, known as the 'Nandadulal Temple,' stands as the focal point of the entire complex. This architectural marvel showcases the rich heritage and cultural significance of Bengal.
