Historical background and establishment---
After killing Tadka Sur in Buxar, Vashishtha Muni came to Bhagalpur with his disciples Ram and Lakshman. At the same time, in Treta Yuga, he established Baba Budhanath Temple and worshiped Shivalinga. This is also mentioned in the twelfth chapter of Shiva Purana. Budhanath locality is also named after this temple.
