Vijayraghavgarh Fort — Attraction in Bijeraghogarh

I got an opportunity to visit the Vijayraghavgarh / Bijeraghogarh Fort on 22nd October 2014. This fort is located in Vijayraghavgarh Town which is 35 kms from the distt headquarter of Katni. Katni district has a history of glorious past and this beautiful fort of katni is being protected by M. P. State Tourism.

This fort is made on a plain land unlike other forts which are generaly made on some hill tops. In front of the fort is the croweded town of Vijayraghavgarh and on other sides is the lush green jungle. In front of the fort there is a small temple having bright white marble Shivling behind which is located another beautiful Shiva temple. Close to the fort is made the governmant's “Vishram Grih”.

There is gaurd in the fort 24X7 who provides a register to enter the name and address of each visitor. I talked to the gaurd, Mr. Shivprakash Tamrakar to extract the information about the fort and he told that the building next to the fort is known as Rangmahal and behind it existed a huge tunnel in the past which connected to the town of Maihar.

The walls and ceiling of Rang Mahal are beautifully decorated with COLOURED PAINTINGS. And a 10th century INSCRIPTION, belonging to Kalchuri period, can be seen in the verandah of its Kachahari.

The fort is dedicated to Lord Shri Ram (Vijayraghav), but the statue from its temple has been lost and only a photo of Lord Shri Ram has been put in its place. This Vijayraghavgarh fort is the top tourist attraction of katni distt and it was recently restored under ACC's patronage.

There is a board inside the fort which tells that “King Sarju Prasad of Vijaraghavgarh was one of the most heroic figures of the Jabalpur region in 1857 war. He shot dead the tahsildar Subit Ali and captured the dak horses. He once defeated the British troops, but after a few setbacks British again invaded the fort of Vijayraghavgarh with full force making it a place of fiercest battle. It is said that Sardar Rambol's wife “Veer Naini” played a significant role in the defence of fort and gave up her life in the process. King Sarju Prasad escaped but the fort fell in the hands...

जगमोहन सिंह

भारतेन्दुयुगीन हिन्दी साहित्यकार ठाकुर जगमोहन सिंह ठाकुर जगमोहन सिंह (४ अगस्त १८५७ - ) हिन्दी के भारतेन्दुयुगीन कवि, आलोचक और उपन्यासकार थे। उन्होंने सन् 1880 से 1882 तक धमतरी में और सन् 1882 से 1887 तक शिवरीनारायण में तहसीलदार और मजिस्ट्रेट के रूप में कार्य किया। छत्तीसगढ़ के बिखरे साहित्यकारों को जगन्मोहन मंडल बनाकर एक सूत्र में पिरोया और उन्हें लेखन की सही दिशा भी दी। जगन्मोहन मंडल काशी के भारतेन्दु मंडल की तर्ज में बनी एक साहित्यिक संस्था थी।

हिंदी के अतिरिक्त संस्कृत और अंग्रेजी साहित्य की उन्हें अच्छी जानकारी थी। ठाकुर साहब मूलत: कवि ही थे। उन्होंने अपनी रचनाओं द्वारा नई और पुरानी दोनों प्रकार की काव्यप्रवृत्तियों का पोषण किया।

जीवन परिचय संपादित करें

ठाकुर जगमोहन सिंह का जन्म विजयराघवगढ़ रियासत में ठाकुर सरयू सिंह के राज परिवार में में हुआ था। १८५७ के प्रथम स्वतन्त्रता संग्राम में ठा. सरयू सिंह ने बढ़ चढ़ कर हिस्सा लिया था। फलस्वरूप अंग्रेजों ने उन्हें गिरफ्तार कर लिया और उन्हें काले पानी की सजा सुनाई गई। लेकिन अंग्रेजी हुकूमत में सजा भोगने की बजाय ठा. सरयू सिंह ने मौत को गले लगना उचित समझा। जगमोहन सिंह ऐसे ही क्रांतिकारी, मेधावी एवं स्वप्न दृष्टा सुपुत्र थे।

अपनी शिक्षा के लिए काशी आने पर उनका परिचय भारतेंदु और उनकी मंडली से हुआ। बनारस के क्वींस कालेज में अध्ययन के दौरान वे भारतेंदु हरिश्चंद्र के सम्पर्क में आए तथा यह सम्पर्क प्रगाढ़ मैत्री में बदल गया जो की जीवन पर्यन्त बनी रही।

१८७८ में शिक्षा समाप्ति के बाद वे विजयराघवगढ़ आ गए। दो साल पश्चात् १८८० में धमतरी (छत्तीसगढ़) में तहसीलदार नियुक्त किये गए। बाद में तबादले पर शिवरीनारायण आये। कहा जाता है कि शिवरीनारायण में विवाहित होते हुए भी इन्हें 'श्यामा' नाम की स्त्री से प्रेम हो गया। शिवरीनारायण में रहते हुए इन्होने श्यामा को केंद्र में रख कर अनेक रचनाओं का सृजन किया जिनमे हिंदी का अत्यंत भौतिक एवं दुर्लभ उपन्यास श्याम-स्वप्न प्रमुख है।

कृतियाँ संपादित करें

उनके तीन काव्यसंग्रह प्रकाशित हैं :

(1) "प्रेम-संपत्ति-लता" (सं. 1942 वि.), (2) "श्यामालता", और (3) "श्यामासरोजिनी" (सं. 1943)। इसके अतिरिक्त इन्होंने कालिदास के "मेघदूत" का बड़ा ही ललित अनुवाद भी ब्रजभाषा के कबित्त सवैयों में किया है। हिंदी निबंधों के प्रथम उत्थान काल के निबंधकारों में उनका महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है।

शैली पर उनके व्यक्तित्व की अनूठी छाप है। वह बड़ी परिमार्जित, संस्कृतगर्भित, काव्यात्मक और प्रवाहपूर्ण होती हैं। कहीं-कहीं पंडिताऊ शैली के चिंत्य प्रयोग भी मिल जाते हैं। "श्यामास्वप्न" उनकी प्रमुख गद्यकृति है, जिसका संपादन कर डॉ॰ श्रीकृष्णलाल ने नागरीप्रचारिणी सभा द्वारा प्रकाशित कराया है। इसमें गद्य-पद्य दोनों हैं, किंतु पद्य की संख्या गद्य की अपेक्षा बहुत कम है। इसे भावप्रधान उपन्यास की संज्ञा दी जा सकती है। आद्योपांत शैली वर्णानात्मक है। इसमें चरित्रचित्रण पर ध्यान न देकर प्रकृति और प्रेममय जीवन का ही चित्र अंकित किया गया है। कवि की शृंगारी रचनाओं की भावभूमि पर्याप्त सरस और हृदयस्पर्शी होती है। कवि में सौंदर्य और सुरम्य रूपों के प्रति अनुराग की व्यापक भावना थी। आचार्य रामचंद्र शुक्ल का इसीलिए कहना था कि "प्राचीन संस्कृत साहित्य" के अभ्यास और विंध्याटवी के रमणीय प्रदेश में निवास के कारण विविध भावमयी प्रकृति के रूपमाधुर्य की जैसी सच्ची परख जैसी सच्ची अनुभूति इनमें थी वैसी उस काल के किसी हिंदी कवि या लेखक में नहीं पाई जाती (हिंदी साहित्य का इतिहास, पृ. 474, पंचम संस्करण)। मानवीय सौंदर्य को प्राकृतिक सौंदर्य के संदर्भ में देखने का जो प्रयास ठाकुर साहब ने छायावादी युग के इतन दिनों पहले किया इससे उनकी रचनाएँ वास्तव में "हिंदी काव्य में एक नूतन विधान" का आभास देती हैं। उनकी ब्रजभाषा काफी परिमार्जित और शैली काफी पुष्ट थी।

उनकी दो कुण्डलियाँ प्रस्तुत हैं-

Rebellion against the British started in the fort of Vijayraghavgarh – The fort of Raja Saryuprasad, son of Raja Prayagdas of the princely state of Vijayraghavgarh, who played an important role in liberating the country from the shackles of British rule, still tells its story.
