A Divine and Historic Gem — Ravan Mandir, Bisrakh (Greater Noida)
We recently visited the Ravan Mandir in Bisrakh village, Greater Noida, with my wife and son — and it was a truly special experience. This temple is unlike any other, as it’s believed to be the birthplace of Ravan and one of the very few temples in India dedicated to him.
The temple beautifully captures the mythological and spiritual essence of Ravan — not just as the antagonist from the Ramayana, but as a great scholar, Shiva devotee, and a king of immense knowledge. The carvings on the outer walls are extraordinary, depicting scenes from Ravan’s life and the Ramayana with intricate detail. The idols inside are unique and full of character, radiating a calm, devotional energy.
The temple is well-maintained, clean, and peaceful — a wonderful contrast to the bustle of city life nearby. The local priests and caretakers were kind and welcoming, sharing stories and history about Ravan’s connection to Bisrakh. My son was especially fascinated by the sculptures and murals, which made it a great cultural and educational visit for our family.
If you are in or around Noida, Greater Noida, or Delhi-NCR, this place is definitely worth visiting. It’s not just a temple, but a reminder of how rich and layered our mythology is. A hidden heritage spot that deserves much more recognition — a must-visit for history lovers, devotees, and anyone seeking peace and perspective....

Sage Vishrava is said to have established a Shivalinga in the village of Bisrakh. This Shivalinga is unique as it has eight arms (Ashtabhuji). It is said that this is the only eight-armed Shivalinga of Lord Shiva found in Bisrakh.
Ravana, the king of Lanka, is also believed to have worshipped this Ashtabhuji Shivalinga. The Shivalinga still resides in the temple with full grandeur. Bisrakh village is also mentioned in ancient scriptures (Puranas). Even today, the traditional performance of Ramleela is not held in this village, and Ravana's effigy is not burned.
Until a few years ago, the village observed mourning on the day of Dussehra. However, things have changed slightly in recent times. The thinking of the youth has evolved. Still, the effigy of Ravana is not burned here, and instead, Ravana is worshipped. Even today, during excavation in Bisrakh, Shivalingas are...
