We were in Dudhsagar falls on 22nd dec 2022. Its an amazing place and I would say a must visit one if you are going towards Goa. Here are somethings which you should know • You cant go to the falls in your car • You have to come to a place called Kulem and park your vehicle • That is just like any other small town with small roads, and on each side of road, they have converted empty plots into parking lots. They charge some 100 Rs for parking. All the parking lots are walkable distance to the ticketing booth • The ticketing booth opens at 9 AM and they need some 10-15 mins for setting up the process • You need to carry Adhar card for all the visitors. • You HAVE TO hire the JEEP to reach the falls ( otherwise you can do trekking ). There is a board that 250 online jeeps are there and 50 off line jeeps. The offline jeep I suppose to start only after 10.30 .. BUT….. The online website never works and you are forced to take offline jeeps • There will be long line in the counter on weekends. So avoid the weekends. We reached the counter by around 8.50 AM on Thursday so there was not much of crowd. So it is advisable to reach early to the counter • At the ticketing counter they charge 500 for the jeep, 100 for the life jacket ( mandatory for all ) • Most of the jeeps are Mahindra bolero, completely covered so no dust would be there • Jeeps will carry 6-7 people. The roads are not very bad so you can sit in the backside of the jeep without any problem • From the ticketing counter falls is located some 10 kms and it takes around 40 mins to reach • The jeep stops at the forest check post where you have to pay 40 as entrance fees. The forest guard checks how many plastic bottles are being carried by you. IDEALLY when you come back the same count should be there ( but he never checks when we come back ) • The 10 km stretch is not very bad. Most of the jeeps are just 2 wheel drive but still make it through. I saw only couple 4 WD vehicles You will pass through couple of streams where the jeep goes through water. However the water doesn’t enter jeep • After reaching the falls parking lot, you have to make note of the jeep number because you have to come back in the same jeep • From that parking lot you have to walk some 10-15 mins to reach the actual falls, Some part of this walk is on rocky terrain. But easily achievable by all the age group • Once you reach the falls, its just amazing view. You can see some trains passing on the bridge. We saw some 3 goods trains when we were there • The driver gives you 45 mins to 1 hour for the whole trip. So you need 10-15 mins of walk, 30 mins in the falls and another 10-15 mins walk back to jeep • There is a pool at the bottom of the falls. ENSURE YOU JUMP INTO IT . The water is ice cold, initially you feel uncomfortable with temperature. However within 2-3 mins you get used to the cold water. Since the life jacket is there, you will be floating in that pool and its AMAZING experience. There is one life guard who will keep constant watch on people • BEWARE OF MONKEYS -- they are very notorious. They open all the bags and search for food. One of them came near my wife and when she tried to shoo away , monkey got angry and scratched my wife ( not a serious one, probably monkey was trying to scare my wife and give away the bag ) • Once you done with play , you have to come back for 45 mins in the same road ( same jeep too ) . Some times there may be small traffic jam because jeeps going towards falls may block road • There is a paid toilet in Kulem area ( near the ticketing counter ) and I found it very clean. There is a toilet in the falls parking lot, that was not very well maintained. They also have kept something called Bio-toilet ( I didn’t check it ) • Total cost - 500 ( jeep ) + 100 ( life jacket rent ) + 40 ( forest entry fees ) ==...

I had been planning this trip for the past two years, and finally, we set off in the perfect season, just two days after some heavy rains.

My suggestion regarding the guide is, if you want to enjoy the trek at your own pace, consider hiring a guide exclusively for your group instead of merging with others. Although it may be more expensive, it gives you the freedom to take breaks and explore on your terms.

Our guide seemed to favor the other team we had merged with. Whenever they needed a break, he allowed it, but when we requested rest, he insisted we keep moving. There were two girls in the other team, so perhaps that was part of the reason for his preference. However, we paid equally, which made it frustrating. He would even walk 500 meters to get water for them but never offered us the same consideration, which left us feeling unsupported.

We started from Madgaon at 7 a.m., had a hearty breakfast, and headed toward Kulem railway station. Right in front of the station is the booking office. If your group is fewer than ten people, you’ll need to pay extra, but you can save by teaming up with another group. We were a group of three and joined up with another group of four, making us a total of seven.

For the three of us, we paid 651 INR at the booking office. Additionally, we paid 855 INR for the guide, 100 INR for parking, and 300 INR for the forest entrance, totaling 1,906 INR, which came to 635 INR per person.

From the booking office, we drove to the parking area, which is about 1 km away. From there, we started trekking toward the forest office, a distance of 700 meters, where we paid 300 INR and entered the forest.

This is a moderate trek, with about 500 meters of small, uneven ups and downs, but the rest of the path is mostly flat, making it a fairly easy trek overall. You’ll be surrounded by lush greenery as you walk toward the river, which feels refreshing.

After about 9 km, you’ll reach the forest office and a viewpoint. It’s a nice spot to rest and enjoy some lime juice or Frooti. From there, there’s a small mountain to climb, but it’s an easy ascent.

Once you climb the small mountain, you’ll finally reach what you’ve been trekking for—a massive waterfall. It’s incredible, with water cascading from a height of about 1 km, and a train track passing right through the middle of the falls. It’s an amazing sight, especially when a train goes by!

We didn’t go into the water, as swimming is currently banned for safety reasons, but we thoroughly enjoyed the view. The perspective here is unique; from the base, you look up at the waterfall, which offers a completely different experience compared to the view from the train.

We spent about 1.5 hours at the waterfall before starting our journey back. On the way, we asked our guide if he could take us along the railway track. He agreed, and after 7 km, we reached the track and began walking on it. We even got to see a train pass by, which we had been hoping to see.

However, walking on the track was a bit dull compared to the regular trail.

Eventually, the track led us back to the parking junction. Our trek had started at 8:50 a.m., and we reached the junction around 12:10 p.m. We took some pictures, rested, and enjoyed some oranges and bananas we’d packed. Be careful of the monkeys, though—they won’t let you eat in peace! It’s a good idea to have a stick to keep them away.

We started our return journey at 2:40 p.m. and made it back by 5 p.m.

Atleast you need 2ltr of...
