Very nice and calm mandir at narve near Bicholim. Shree Satpakoteshwar is a form of Lord Shiva. This is a historic temple, built by Kadamba King which was later destroyed over a period of time and was tried to restore by 2 Hindu kings. The 2nd king was Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great pride of India who restored it after it was demolished by Portuguese. Recently it was inaugurated by CM of Goa, it has been beautifully renovated. There are 2 more temples close by, one is of Goddess Arya Durga. Parking is available. If you have senior citizens with you, get your car right next to the mandir. There is no toilet facility, though you can use one which is available inside the local gauridian/pandits house. There is a small Cafe where you can get tea/coffee/lemonsoda. MANDIR is almost 1hr 15mins drive from Dabolim airport. There are two ways either you can come from inside short cut narrow roads or straight till mapusa and then turn towards Bicholim. On the way you can visit many other mandir till narve. You don't have to take any ferry boat to reach here. Very peaceful and serene place,surrounded by trees around.

Located just a 20-minute drive from Bicholim, the Saptakoteshwar Temple is not only easily accessible by car but also steeped in history. Dating back to the twelfth century, it was once the deity of the Kadamba dynasty's Kings. After Portuguese conquest in 1540, the linga was removed during the Inquisition but later rescued by a local named Narayan Shenvi Suryarao. King Shivaji, during his 1668 expedition against the Portuguese, ordered the temple's reconstruction, as seen on a stone plaque near the entrance. The name "Saptakoteshwar" originates from seven sages praying for seven crore years near the convergence of five rivers, where Lord Shiva granted their wishes. Today, the temple hosts the grand Gokulashtami festival, drawing devotees from across India.

The people who will visit the place after looking at various reviews with pictures, just to let you know all the pictures are not from the same temple but a mix of different temples around the island. This is actually a ruin of the original temple which once was in its magnificent structure but now it's under the ASI for maintenance. The place is beautiful as you put on your thinking cap trying to figure out if the small temple-like structure around the pond was used for lighting a lamp to reflect on the water or was it used for God and goddess idols to be placed in it. You can spend around 20 minutes if the climate is favourable. Travelled with Soul Travelling for this temple.

गोवा ही भोगभूमी नाही तर देवभूमी आहे ! श्रीराम , परशुराम , श्रीकृष्ण यांच्या चरणस्पर्शाने पावन झालेली तपोभूमी आहे . छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज व छत्रपती संभाजी महाराजांच्या पराक्रमाच्या गाथा सांगणाऱ्या किल्ल्यांची भूमी आहे. या आशा हिंदू वारसास्थळांना भेट दिल्यावर मन प्रसन्न होते , समाधान लाभते . श्री सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिर ( छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या हस्ते पुनर्निर्माण ) बेतुल दुर्ग ( छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी बांधला ) फर्मांगुडी ( छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी ख्रिस्ती मिशनरी यांना फर्मान सोडले ) मर्दनगड ( छत्रपती संभाजी महाराजांनी बांधला ) नानुज दुर्ग ( छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी बांधला ) श्री चंद्रेश्वर भुतनाथ मंदिर इ. अशी फार मोठी यादी होईल .

गोमंतक प्रांत एकेकाळी संपन्न अशा कदंबा राजवटीचा भाग होता . " सप्तकोटीश्वरालब्ध वराप्रसादा " अशी बिरुदावली दिमाखात मिरवणाऱ्या कदंबा घराण्याचे कुलदैवत म्हणजेच " श्री सप्तकोटेश्वर महादेव " होय . दिवार ( Divar ) या मांडवी नदी मधील एका मोठ्या बेटाच्या पूर्वेच्या काठावर श्री सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिर होते . मंदिराच्या आवारात ' पुर्ण तीर्थ ' किंवा ' कोटी तीर्थ तळी ' होती / सध्याही आहे . कदंबा राजघराण्याची राणी कमलदेवी कि ज्या शिवभक्त होत्या , त्यांनी हे मंदिर बांधलेले आहे .

चंद्रपुरा / चंडोर , गोपिकापट्टन व इतर ठिकाणी मिळालेल्या सुवर्णमुद्रांच्यामध्ये राजा जयकेशी प्रथम , राजा जयकेशी द्वितीय , राजा जयकेशी त्रितीय , राजा शिवचित्त परमादिदेव , राजा सोयदेव या वेगवेगळ्या कालखंडातील राजांच्या नावांच्या बरोबर सप्तकोटीस्वरालब्ध वराप्रसादा हे सुद्धा कोरलेले आहे .

बहामनी सुल्तान अल्लाउद्दीन हसन गांगू याने १३५२ मध्ये कदंबा राजाला हरवले व गोमंतक वर १४ वर्षे राज्य केले . त्याच्या धर्माच्या शिकवणुकीप्रमाणे सर्व हिंदू मंदिराबरोबरच सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिर देखील उध्वस्त केले व त्याच्या सैनिकांनी शिवलिंग खोदून बाहेर काढले .

१३६७ मध्ये विजयनगरचा राजा हरिहर रायाने बहामनी सुल्तानाचा पराभव करून हिंदू साम्राज्याची पुनःस्थापना केली . त्या राजाचा एक मंत्री की ज्यांचे नाव माधव मंत्री होते त्यांनी १४ व्या शतकाच्या अखेरीस सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिराचा जीर्णोद्धार केला .

परंतु १५६० मध्ये पोर्तुगीजांनी मंदिर उद्ध्वस्त केले , त्या पवित्र भूमीची हरएक प्रकारे विटंबना केली , व त्या ठिकाणी Nossa Senhora De Candelaria यांच्या नावाने Chapel ची उभारणी केली . परंतु या दरम्यान काही हिंदूंनी शिवलिंग लपवून व जपून ठेवले .

पोर्तुगीजांचा पुन्हा एकदा पराभव करून प्रजापालक छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी उध्वस्त झालेल्या सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिराच्या जागेची पाहणी केली ; परंतु खुप जास्त प्रमाणात नुकसान झाले असल्यामुळे आणि त्याच ठिकाणी पुन:उभारणी करण्यासाठी फार मोठा कालावधी लागला असता . म्हणून नार्वा , माएम येथे श्री सप्तकोटेश्वर महादेवाच्या नवीन मंदिराची उभारणी करून त्या ठिकाणी मूळ शिवलिंगाची विधिवत स्थापना केली . त्या प्रसंगाचे वर्णन करणारा शिलालेख मंदिराच्या मुख्य प्रवेशद्वारावर आहे - " श्री सप्तकोटेश शके १५९० किलकाब्दे कार्तिक कृष्ण | पंचम्या सोमे श्री शिवराजा देवालयस्य प्रारंभ: | " असा तो शिलालेख .

खडकात उभारलेल्या या मंदिराच्या मागील बाजूस सलग कोरलेल्या कमानी दिसतात . तसेच मागील बाजूस डोंगरावर चढून गेल्यावर मंदिर परिसराचे व मंदिराचे नयनरम्य दर्शन होते .

श्री सप्तकोटेश्वर मंदिराचे दर्शन झाल्यानंतर , दिवार बेटावरील पूर्ण तीर्थ अथवा कोटी तीर्थ तळी या ठिकाणीही नक्की जावे . पूर्वीचे जुने मंदिर दोन्ही वेळेस उध्वस्त करताना दोन्ही परकीय आक्रमकांना ही तळी काही केल्या उद्ध्वस्त करता आली नाही .

सर्व इच्छांची पूर्तता करते म्हणून पूर्ण तीर्थ ; तसेच कोटी तीर्थांच्या जलांमधील पापक्षालन हे एकटे तीर्थ करते म्हणून कोटी तीर्थ तळी असे नामाभिदान असणाऱ्या आणि अवशेष रुपी असणाऱ्या जुन्या श्री सप्तकोटेश्वराचे तीर्थाटन...
