Dabhoda Hanumanji Temple: A Historical and Spiritual Site Located in the village of Dabhoda in Gandhinagar district, Gujarat, India, the ancient Hanumanji temple houses a self-manifested idol of Lord Hanuman that is believed to be over a thousand years old. A Historical Legend During the Mughal rule, when Alauddin Khilji invaded Patan, the King of Patan sought refuge in the dense forests of Dabhoda. A dense forest called Devgarh existed at that time. Shepherds used to graze their royal cows and cattle in the Devgarh forest. One day, a cow separated from the herd and stood at a particular spot, bowed its head, and returned to the herd at dusk. The shepherds investigated the matter and informed the king. The king himself went there to investigate and, upon the advice of the royal priest who felt something miraculous, excavated the spot and found the idol of Lord Hanuman. A grand yagna was performed there, and the idol was installed. This place was then established as the Shri Dabhodiya Hanumanji Temple, and when human habitation began there, the village came to be known as Dabhoda. According to folklore, during the British era, a train passed through this place. For some reason, the train stopped, and despite repeated attempts, it could not be started. The villagers advised the British to offer a tin of oil to Lord Hanumanji. After that, the train started. The Dabhodiya Hanumanji Temple Trust claims that the Dabhodiya Hanumanji Temple is the first temple in the state to have the most oil abhishek (ritual bathing with oil). Devotees offer thousands of liters of oil for the abhishek of the deity. The temple has a unique arrangement for collecting the oil offered by devotees, with a dedicated oil tank and a special motor to empty it. A Sacred Place of Worship On the occasion of the Kali Chaudas folk fair, the idol is bathed with oil from 350 tins, and people worship Dabhodiya Hanumanji to fulfill their wishes. The temple also provides accommodation, food, and transportation facilities for pilgrims. All modes of transport, rail, and air services are connected to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to reach this temple. Located 15 km from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, bus services and private vehicles are easily available to reach Dabhodiya Hanuman. Pure ghee is offered as prasad to Lord Hanuman in this holy temple.
