ભાવનગર જિલ્લામાં આવેલા ગોપનાથ મહાદેવ મંદિરનો ઇતિહાસ

ભારતના ભવ્ય અને સમૃદ્ધ ઇતિહાસની દેશ-વિદેશમાં પ્રતિષ્ઠા હતી. ભારતના મંદિરો સ્થાપત્યકલાનો ઉત્તમ નમૂનો ગણાતા હતા. દેશમાં તાજેતરમાં પણ એવા ઘણા મંદિરો અસ્તીવ ધરાવે છે, જે આજના આધુનિક માણસોને પણ અચંબિત કરી મૂકે છે. એ જાણવું અશક્ય જેવુ લાગે છે કે, આ મંદરોનું નિર્માણ પ્રાચીનકાળમાં કઈ રીતે થયું હશે. ભારતમાં વિદેશી ઇસ્લામી આક્રાંતાઓના હુમલા પણ ખાસ કરીને મંદિરોને તોડવા અને લૂંટવા માટે થતાં હતા. તેની પાછળનું કારણ માત્ર એટલું નથી કે, તે લોકો મૂર્તિપૂજાની વિરુદ્ધ હતા. તેની પાછળનું એક કારણ એ પણ છે કે, ભારતના એક મંદિર સાથે આખો ઇતિહાસ અને લોકોનું સ્વાભિમાન જોડાયેલું હતું. એક મંદિરના નિર્માણની સાથે યુનિવર્સિટીનું પણ નિર્માણ થતું હતું. જો ભારતના મંદિરોને જ તોડી પાડવામાં આવે તો ભારતનું શિક્ષણતંત્ર અને ભારતનું સ્વાભિમાન પણ તૂટી પડે એમ હતું. આજે એક એવા જ મંદરીની વાત કરવાની છે, જેના પર મુસ્લિમ આક્રાંતાઓએ 16મી સદીમાં આક્રમણ કર્યું હતું. તે મંદિરનું નામ છે ગોપનાથ મહાદેવ મંદિર. તેનો ઇતિહાસ પણ ખૂબ રોચક છે.

ભાવનગર જિલ્લાના તળાજા તાલુકામાં ઝાંઝમેર ગામની નજીક એક જગ્યા આવેલી છે, જે ગોપનાથ મહાદેવની જગ્યા તરીકે ઓળખાય છે. ઑપઇન્ડિયાની ટીમ ભાવનગરના આ પ્રાચીન મંદિર સુધી પહોંચી હતી. ઑપઇન્ડિયાએ મંદિરના ટ્રસ્ટી ઘનશ્યામસિંહ રાઠોડ અને અન્ય પદાધિકારીઓ તથા મહંતો સાથે આ વિશે વિગતે ચર્ચા કરી હતી. ત્યાંથી અમને જાણવા મળ્યું હતું કે, આ મંદિર ઘણું જ પ્રાચીન છે અને તેનો ભવ્ય ઇતિહાસ પણ છે. 16મી સદીમાં ઇસ્લામી આક્રાંતાઓએ આ મંદિર પર હુમલો કર્યો હતો અને ઘણા નિર્દોષ હિંદુઓને મારી નાખ્યા હતા. ચાલો, શરૂઆતથી જાણીએ ગોપનાથ મહાદેવ મંદિરના ઇતિહાસ વિશે.

આ મંદિર સાથે અનેકો દંતકથાઓ જોડાયેલી છે. પરતું ઐતિહાસિક દ્રષ્ટિએ સૌથી યોગ્ય ગણાતી હોય તેવી એક કથા નરસિંહ મહેતા સાથે સંકળાયેલી છે. જેમનો ઉલ્લેખ નરસિંહ મહેતાએ પણ કર્યો હતો. દંતકથા એવી છે કે, તળાજા શહેરમાં નરસિંહ મહેતા તેમના ભાઈ અને ભાભી સાથે રહેતા હતા. તેઓ આખો દિવસ કૃષ્ણભક્તિમાં લીન રહેતા હતા. તેનાથી કંટાળીને તેમના ભાભી તેમને મેણું મારે છે કે, આખો દિવસ આમ જ રહેવું એના કરતાં જંગલ વિસ્તારમાં જઈને સન્યાસ લઈ લેવો સારો. ત્યારે તેઓ ઘરનો ત્યાગ કરે છે અને ફરતા-ફરતા ઝાંઝમેરની નજીકના ગામોમાં આવે છે. તે સમયે તે આખો વિસ્તાર જંગલ સ્વરૂપે હતો.

નરસિંહ મહેતા ગોપનાથ જગ્યા પર આવીને અન્ન-જળનો ત્યાગ કરે છે અને મહાદેવની આરાધના શરૂ કરે છે. 7 દિવસ અન્ન-જળ વગર ભગવાનની ઉપાસના કર્યા બાદ આખરે મહાદેવ તેમના પર પ્રસન્ન થાય છે અને નિરાકારરૂપે તેમને દર્શન આપે છે. ભગવાન શિવ નરસિંહ મહેતાને વરદાન માંગવાનું કહે છે. ત્યારે કૃષ્ણભક્ત નરસિંહ મહેતા ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણ અને ગોપીઓની રાસલીલાના દર્શનની ઈચ્છા વ્યક્ત કરે છે. ત્રિલોકનાથ ભગવાન તેમની ઈચ્છા પૂર્ણ કરે છે અને તેમને ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણની રાસલીલાના દર્શન કરાવે છે. આજે પણ મંદિરની અંદર પ્રવેશતા જ ઉપર નજર કરીએ તો સ્થાપત્ય કલાના નમૂના સ્વરૂપ રાસલીલાના દર્શન થાય છે.

રાસલીલા પૂર્ણ થયા બાદ ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણ અને ગોપીઓ ફળાહાર માટે વનમાંથી શુદ્ધ ફળો શોધી લાવે છે. પરંતુ ગોપીઓનો એક નિયમ હતો કે, તેઓ મહાદેવની પૂજા કર્યા પછી જ કોઈપણ વસ્તુ આરોગતા હતા. તે સમયે ભગવાન શ્રીકૃષ્ણએ ગોપીઓને તેમના આભૂષણોથી શિવલિંગ તૈયાર કરવાનું કહ્યું હતું. ગોપીઓએ પોતાના આભૂષણોથી શિવલિંગની સ્થાપના કરી હતી. તેથી તેને ગોપનાથ મહાદેવ તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવે છે.

આ મંદિરમાં જ આદિકવી અને ભક્તકવિ જેવા નામોથી પ્રસિદ્ધિ પામેલા નરસિંહ મહેતાના પ્રભાતિયા અને ભક્તિગીતોની રચના થઈ હતી, જે ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય જગતમાં આગવું સ્થાન ધરાવે છે. પરંતુ સમય જતાં આ મંદિર નાશ પામ્યું હતું. જે બાદ રાજપીપળાના ગોહિલ રાજવી પરિવારે આ મંદિરનું પુનઃ નિર્માણ કરાવ્યું છે
