A rich history
While the makeover is new and exciting, the Motera Stadium, earlier known as the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Gujarat has a rich history. In 1986-87, Sunil Gavaskar scored his 10,000th run in Test cricket here, Kapil Dev took his 432nd Test wicket in 1994, AB de Villiers smashed a Test double-ton in 2008, India defeated Australia in the quarterfinal of the 2011 ODI World Cup, Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman to score 30,000 international runs among others.
Rs 800 crore makeover
The government roped in the same team that worked on the construction of the Statue of Unity, for the grand makeover of the Narendra Modi Stadium. This new look was afforded at a price of Rs 800 crore, per Times Now.

As the stadium is anticipating people coming in large numbers, it has a huge parking space that can accommodate 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers.
76 corporate boxes
If there are any big cricket games at the Narendra Modi Stadium i.e. a World Cup match or a final, do not be surprised to see the politicians and actors in attendance. The stadium has 76 corporate boxes, all air-conditioned, and can seat 25 people in each one.

Atmosphere & Crowd: The energy in the stadium was absolutely electric! GT fans showed up in huge numbers and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement right from the moment I entered. The chants, music, and crowd coordination made the whole match feel larger than life.
Infrastructure & Seating: This stadium is the world’s largest cricket stadium, and you can feel its grandeur the moment you step inside. The seating is spacious, well-structured, and offers a great view of the pitch from almost every angle. I was impressed with how clean and organized everything was despite the massive crowd.
Entry & Security: Security checks were thorough yet efficient. Entry was managed well with proper signboards and crowd control. It’s advisable to reach a bit early, especially for high-voltage matches likeInternational Matches, to avoid long queues.
Facilities: Washrooms were surprisingly clean and maintained. There were multiple food counters and beverage stalls throughout the stadium. While prices were a bit on the higher side (as expected in such venues), the quantity was less, the quality was decent and service was quick considering the rush.
Accessibility & Parking: The stadium is well connected and easy to reach. Parking is available but it’s better to use public transport or cabs on match days to avoid traffic hassles. The staff outside were quite helpful in guiding people to their designated gates.
Match Experience: Watching GT vs RR live, with thousands of fans cheering, was something else! The light shows, fireworks, music, and overall entertainment made it more than just a match—it felt like a festival. The stadium screens and sound system added to the thrill.
