Brief History -The establishment of the Mandir is intrinsically linked with the movement of the British troops from Karnal to Ambala. This temple was built around 1844, at the request of South Indians who served with the British Elephant Cavalry Regiment. The regiment, on their way from Karnal to Ambala was stationed near BD Flour mill and the elephants were looked after and trained by mahouts from South India, who were devotes of Lord Shiva. A small Pindi Idol was installed initially in a small hut, then in a temple and named as Hathi Khana Shiv Mandir.
