A perfect summer getaway for tourists of all kinds. If you are an adventure seeker, Chadwick Falls in Shimla is an ultimate destination for you. If you are a nature lover then the serenity, dense forests and tranquil atmosphere surrounding the area of the waterfall gives you enough reason to visit this attraction time and time again.

Also known as one of the most popular sightseeing places in Shimla, Chadwick Falls has always been a delightful experience for tourists. It is an amazing place to hang out with your friends and offers a great hiking trail that lets you explore its quietness, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The soothing environment and the mesmerizing views enchant tourists from all around the world and make one to overlook the surrounding beauty.

Positioned at an altitude of nearly 1586 meters above the sea level, this place is located just a few minutes away from Summer Hill and has everything that you need to relax and rejuvenate your senses. It is an unexpected waterfall in the woods of serenity and a must-visit attraction of Shimla tour.

History of Chadwick Falls, Shimla There is an interesting story attached to the name of Chadwick Falls. It was derived from two words ‘Chidku Jhaar’, where local considered Chidku as sparrow and Jhaar as jharna. They named it so because they thought that only sparrows can touch the top of the waterfall and not human beings. However, it was quite difficult for Britishers to pronounce it properly and hence they renamed it as Chadwick.

Some also say that a renowned scientist named Chadwick committed suicide from this location and that’s the major reason why it is called Chadwick. No matter how it got its name, this attraction redefines the beauty in its own way and is a great place for people who are looking to breathe in...

Chadwick falls located in Shimla is also one of India’s best waterfalls.  Tourists, who visit Shimla, make sure to visit the Chadwick falls too. Located in Himachal Pradesh, it is a known fact that this state is one of India’s best tourist destinations. And thus there should be no doubts that this is where you should be on your next trip to Shimla.  Beautifully nestled in the middle of dense forests and woods, the alluring Chadwick falls from a height of 1586 m.

The best part about Chadwick waterfall is the surrounding area that consists of thick forests with many pine and deodar trees. The scenic location adds more beauty and serenity to the already striking waterfalls. Flowing in all its might and force, the waters are chilly and milky white. To watch the water fall from such a great height and collect into a small pond is view that nobody will ever get tired of views like these. And for nature lovers, this view is sheer joy and peace. City dwellers know the importance of nature and its wonders more since that is the only source of rejuvenation.  Chadwick waterfall is more active during monsoons and for some time after that.  Sparkling waterfall amidst lush greenery, what more can you ask for! Once you are done exploring Chadwick, you can also visit some really beautiful and ancient waterfalls around the waterfalls.  This region also has a fair every year in April which is visited by many travelers.  Another very interesting fact about this waterfall is that it has been one of the biggest sources of water for the surrounding forest area in Shimla for many years now.

From October to July, you can visit this waterfall at any time since that is when the waterfall can be witnessed in its best. Now you have more reasons to visit Shimla and one of them is of course this...

Chadwick Falls left me in sheer awe of nature's beauty and power. Tucked away amidst the Himalayan landscapes, Chadwick Falls is a true gem, and my experience here was nothing short of magical.

Spectacular Natural Wonder: Chadwick Falls is a breathtaking sight to behold. As I approached the falls, the thundering roar of water became more pronounced, and the cascading white veil against the lush green backdrop was a sight I will forever cherish. The sheer height and force of the falls left me mesmerized.

Tranquil Escape: One of the most enchanting aspects of Chadwick Falls is the sense of tranquility that envelops the area. Surrounded by dense forests and pristine air, the falls offer a peaceful retreat from the chaos of city life. It's the perfect place for nature enthusiasts and those seeking solace.

Rich Biodiversity: The falls are situated in a region teeming with diverse flora and fauna. During my visit, I encountered a variety of plant species, from delicate ferns to towering pines. Birdwatchers will also find joy in spotting the many avian species that inhabit this forested area.

Accessibility and Trekking: Chadwick Falls is accessible via a scenic trek through the forest. The journey itself is an adventure, with well-marked paths and the sounds of nature as your constant companion. The relatively moderate trek ensures that visitors of various fitness levels can enjoy the experience.

Preservation Efforts: It's heartening to see the efforts made to preserve the natural beauty of Chadwick Falls. The area was clean and well-maintained, with minimal litter. Environmental conservation initiatives in the region are essential to protect this...

Waterfall Near Me in Shimla: We visited this waterfall for the first time, and it was a wonderful experience. However, this waterfall is entirely dependent on rainwater, so it's best to visit during or just after the rainy season. Currently, the water flow is minimal, making it less impressive. It's a great spot for a quick picnic with family and friends. The area has a small roadside parking space, where you'll need to park your car along the road. Nestled within a small forest, the waterfall is easily accessible, and visitors can hike down to the base for the best view. The short hike takes about 20 minutes and offers a scenic experience. Until recently, entry was free, but the forest department is now developing it into a tourist attraction with an entry fee of ₹30 per person. Since there are no shops or facilities nearby, it’s advisable to carry your own water and snacks. Right now, the trail is covered with vibrant red flowers, creating a stunning "red carpet" effect along the path. Sharing a few pictures for reference!

This one's the worst place in all of Shimla. The fall is not reachable by any kind of vehicle but you can come to it as close as a 1km trek. The way to the fall is pretty cool as you'll have to cross the jungle in a bit fascinating yet doable way but the final destination is very disappointing as the fall has now turned into a dump house smelling like garbage (which in Indian origin is known as a 'NAALA'). Since it is situated far off from the city centre you might as well skip coming here unless you have any spare time left. The place is always free from sunlight as the rays of the sun are blocked by the ever-growing tall forest trees growing in close proximity within one another. Though this place comes under Shimla Forest Division Authority, it has got nothing left to be protected and will require a lot of labour to regain it's old value. The water level has also gone down drastically as well so you better pray that it's rainy season when you visit here otherwise it would be a total waste coming down here.
