Dhankar Lake — Attraction in Himachal Pradesh

Dhankar Lake is a high-altitude lake in Spiti Valley, in the Himachal Pradesh state of India. At an elevation of 4,140 metres (13,582 ft), it lies above the Dhankar monastery in the Lahaul-Spiti district and can be approached by a trek from the monastery.

The Trek is a good steep climb uphill for around 4-5 Kms in length and it took us 35 minutes to reach till top. As we are habitual to trek at these altitudes therefore it took us less time or one can say the time which the localities generally take to reach the lake. But for others who arenew or beginners or not regular trekkers immuned to these altitudes should walk slowly one step at a time ,breath good andthey will be there in 1 hour or 1 and half hour.

Though we started our Trek from dhankar village at 6 in the evening, we were told by the locals not to trek now because it was too late, but we told them that we will be climbing quick and so they allowed us. By 6:35 we were at the top and it was a magical land with golden soil stars just begining to come out good amount of breeze blowing the yak were grazing and the sound of the water waves were just icing on the cake.

Also took some pictures and while returning also witnessed the starlink satellite and some red foxes also known as Vulpes Vulpes.

One can see the confluence of 2 rivers that is spiti & pin river from the topwhich was a beautiful site to watch overlooking the Dhankar village and monestry.

Note : Please do not litter garbage outside or leave it there. Only use dustbins to dispose off and if you dnt find one then please carry it with you till you find the same to dispose off. Keep Himalayas and mountains clean and green as being humans it's our duty to do...

For me the biggest highlight of my Spiti trip was Dhankar Lake trek ❤️ Dhankar lake is situated above the Village of Dhankar at the height of 13570 feet in the middle of hills. I asked to some local people about the best route to reach there. As per them, one man made trail is already there which is around 2.5km to reach the sacred lake. I started 5AM for the short trek & took around 70mins to reach the lake from Dhankar Monastery. I spent more than 1.5hr around the lake and come back to my homestay by 8:30AM. During entire time span I was the only human being present, who explored the Lake that morning.

Due to the low or insufficient of oxygen level, in high altitude, it’s tough to catch your breath. The path to the lake is also narrow and steep. So one should ensure they have the right shoe for the hike. Also make sure you will carry Water, Dry Fruit & Chocolate while doing the trek. And most importantly carry a raincoat if you see the sky bit cloudy.

One of the beautiful lake in entire spiti district. Situated in Dhankar village. The altitude of this lake around 13580 ft from sea level. It's about 2.5 km distance from Dhankar new monastery. I went there on 24th June. I started trek around 1 pm and reached there around 2:30pm. Entire Trek route is well marked but the path is very narrow and steep. Due to this one should walk slowly during this trek and carry sufficient amount of water, biscuits, chocolates etc. I was there around 1 hour. The lake is surrounded by snow covered mountains but that time some portion of lake was dry and remaining portion was sufficient amount of water and water is crystal clear. During my visit I was really excited about dhankar lake and i must said it's a must visit place. The surrounding is so beautiful lush green pin drop silence. Thos who want meditate it's a best place to do that.bThis is a holy lake and bathing is strictly prohibited in this lake. So those who visit Dhankar village they should try to visit Dhankar lake once. It's a must...
