Malling Nala: A Thrilling and Dangerous Journey Malling Nala is a notorious stretch of road in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It's part of the route to the Tabo from Nako Village. I crossed this Nala during Month of October, but at that time it was like normal water crossing only. Why is it so famous (or infamous)? Breathtaking Scenery: Despite the dangers, Malling Nala offers stunning views of snow-capped mountains and the winding river below. Thrilling Drive: The road is a challenge for even the most experienced drivers, with sharp turns, steep gradients, and unpredictable landslides. Gateway to Spiti: It's the only road connecting Kinnaur to Spiti, making it a crucial link for travelers and locals alike. Challenges and Risks Landslides: The biggest hazard, as the name suggests. The road is constantly under threat from falling rocks and debris. Altitude Sickness: The high altitude can affect many travelers, causing symptoms like headache, nausea, and fatigue. Weather: The region experiences extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall and rain, which can make the road even more treacherous. Is it worth the risk? That's a question only you can answer. If you're a thrill-seeker with a strong stomach and a head for heights, the experience of driving through Malling Nala can be unforgettable. However, if you're uncomfortable with extreme conditions, it might be best to admire the beauty of Spiti from a safer vantage point.

Embarking on our winter Spiti ride, we encountered the breathtaking frozen waterfall and Maling Nala just after Nako and Maling village. As beautiful as it is adventurous and risky, this spot is a highlight of the journey. However, caution is paramount as black ice poses a significant danger, especially in cold weather. Remember to stay alert and follow safety measures. Don't forget to follow our journey on Instagram and YouTube: @ekmusafir_gops.

Our first stop for a frozen waterfall. This is stop giving you great views of the mountains from the birds eye view! What a place. Astonishing and totally mind-blowing. Be careful of the black ice formed around. Winters can give you a great frozen waterfall experience too. You can definitely stop here for a while and enjoy the hills.

Malling Nala is a notorious and challenging section on the road that connects Kinnaur to the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. Located near the village of Malling (or Malling Nullah), this area is known for its treacherous landslides and difficult driving conditions. The road through Malling Nala is often narrow, with steep drops on one side and unstable mountains on the other.During the monsoon season and even at other times of the year, Malling Nala can become highly dangerous due to frequent landslides and the flow of water across the road. These conditions can make the road impassable for days, cutting off access to the Spiti Valley from the Kinnaur side. For travelers and locals, crossing Malling Nala requires caution, and it is often advisable to check road conditions before attempting the journey. The local authorities occasionally conduct road maintenance to improve the situation, but the natural geography of the area makes it a perpetual challenge. Despite its difficulties, the road through Malling Nala remains a vital link between Kinnaur and Spiti, and it is part of the adventure for those traveling...
