Read moreThis is a definite diamond in the rough! The drive through Shimla and Solan to the Mohan Shakti Heritage Park was a beautiful experience, but nothing could have prepared me for the destination. This was my first experience going off the beaten path while in India. The drive up the mountainside offers views of diverse types of landscapes, houses, and colors. Upon arrival at the Heritage Park, there are two beautiful white lion statues that guard either side of the entrance, or they are there to welcome you, depending on how you want to imagine it. There is a short ramp up a slight hill to walk up, and as you reach the top, prepare to have your breath taken away by the impressive sight of the temple. With the backdrop of the mountains, cobalt blue sky, lush greenery, and extraordinary statues of the gods, the sight of the temple is awe-inspiring and magnificent for anyone of any cultural background. As someone who is not from India, I found myself wanting to know more about the history, religion, and significance of each sculpture. I was taken with the intricacies of the tree etchings located on the temple exterior walls as well. I was happy that my husband was there to explain it all to me, as he is from this general area and a Hindu, so I was able to better understand most of the importance of each statue on the site. Inside the temple, photography is not allowed, and understandably so. However, many of the gods are represented inside with statues and artwork that give greater depth to some of the Hindu stories. It took at least an hour to tour the temple and see each area in detail. As someone who enjoys being in nature, this location, despite being on the opposite side of the globe from where I reside, felt like home. I would strongly advise going here if you want to experience Indian culture and environment without going to the regular...
