It was built in 1802 AD and is dedicated to Shiva.
The temple was built during the reign of Sansar Chand, the last of the famous Katoch kings, by his wife, Maharani Prasanni Devi. The temple is famed for its rich wall paintings that enhance the beauty of its walls. The darbar artists have put their heart and soul to paint those exquisite frescoes on its walls and the ceiling, leaving not an inch unadorned.
The Archaeological Survey of India is now making efforts to rework damages and conserving this rich heritage for future to come. Interestingly, the temple still stands intact even after the massive earthquake in 1905, that rocked the entire region.
It appears to be a small fort from the outside. Around the almost square temple, stand four circular mini-temples dedicated to Surya, Ganesha, Vishnu and Kali (Mahisasur Mardini). The external walls of the temple, bear niches with armed gods and goddesses. Above the niches are beautiful natural dye drawings of birds, fruits and stylised flower patterns.
