The Ropeway and Ski Centre in Solang Valley offers visitors a scenic ride with stunning views of the valley’s natural beauty, but at a cost that many would consider overpriced for the experience. As of 2024, the price for a ride is ₹750 per person, and this fee applies to both adults and children. The price has been increasing steadily over the years, with no significant improvements in the service or the overall experience to justify the rise. Visitors should be aware that if they’re reading this in the future, it’s highly likely the price will have gone up again. The ropeway ride itself, while smooth and enjoyable, covers a relatively short distance, which makes the steep price tag feel unjustified, especially when compared to other similar attractions in Himachal Pradesh or elsewhere in India. That said, the views from the ride are quite beautiful, and depending on the time of year, you can experience either the snow-covered landscapes of winter or the lush, green meadows of summer. At the top of the hill, there’s a restaurant where you can rest and take in the surroundings. The food is decent, though slightly overpriced, as is expected in tourist hotspots, but the setting makes it worthwhile. You can spend as much time as you want at the top, taking in the panoramic views, and return whenever you’re ready, though you must make sure to catch the last ride down by 6 PM. The flexibility in how long you can stay at the hilltop is a positive aspect, allowing you to enjoy the setting at your own pace. During the winter months, Solang Valley is a popular destination for skiing, and the ropeway provides easy access to the slopes for both skiers and snowboarders. However, for non-skiers, the primary attraction remains the views and the chance to relax at the hilltop restaurant. While the overall experience is enjoyable, there’s a strong sense that more could be done to enhance it, especially given the price. The short ride could be complemented by additional activities or informational displays to engage visitors more fully, and the staff could also be more welcoming to create a friendlier atmosphere. Ultimately, the Ropeway and Ski Centre is worth considering if you want to enjoy the views and don’t mind the price, but for those on a budget or expecting more value for money, it may be a bit disappointing. The key takeaway here is to set your expectations appropriately—expect great views and convenience, but not necessarily a long or immersive experience, and certainly not one that feels worth ₹750 for the short...
Read moreLooking at Rani and Padmini (from the movie Ranipadmini) who were crying out happiness while dancing &swinging in the air through Himachal add weight to my heart. I have planned to do paragliding from that very moment onwards.
To do paragliding facing Himalayas were one of the bucket lists when I planned my trip to Himchal and I should say Solang was a better option for the same.
They provide a ropeway facility there. If we're choosing high fly, we've to take the ropeway and go up. Well, the ropeway ride is amazing. You will snowy Himalayas on one side and green trees on the other side. Yeah, I choose the high fly.
Just a few steps running down the hill and… we were in the air! And so we started flying, driven by the wind, admiring the mountains around us and the villages beneath. A mix of fascination and fear came first. But my fear fear of heights turns to love to the heights came second.
Throughout the flight, I was in the cloud nine . It was incredible looking down from my seat, seeing myself float above Earth suspended by nothing but a canopy and a harness.Being up in the air, flying in the glider, made me feel tiny. It made the world feel tiny, given that everything (and everyone) was just beneath my feet. It also made my problems, concerns,&thoughts seem tiny. Up there in the sky, nothing matters. All you experience is purity and serenity!
I think that paragliding or something that all of you should try at least once in your lifetime. It’ll tingle your worldview and your senses after you do it. After all, when you’ve just spent the last few minutes of your life suspended hundreds of meters above ground and see things ,even if unconsciously !
They also provide short fly if you're scared of high. It costs 1500 and high fly cost 3000. They will negotiate it if you're with a group. Because same happened with us. Ropeway to the up cost 600/ person. Also there are videographers and photographers who can cover our footages of paragliding. It will cost 300 for both...
